Ester Henning spent 66 years of her life, in different hospital. In 1916 she was apprehended by the police and brought to Katarina mental hospital in Stockholm. A brief time with her parents in 1919 resulted in that Ester Henning hit her mother in the head with a frying pan and was brought to Säters mental hospital. Some years later she was moved to Uppsala mental hospital, and via Långbro outside Stockholm in the early 1930s, to finally get to ward 22 at Beckomberga mental hospital, where she lived for 43 years. In 1936, she received, by an attentive care staff, work material and encouragement. She immediately begun to draw, paint, sculpt and embroider at a furious pace. During the 50's she is being medicated with Hibernal, but the treatment does not yield the desired result. She remains in closed/protected care and ends her days at Solberga Hospital in 1985, 97 years old.
