Parallax has all the elements that makes a film captivating. It has action, plot twists, science fictional happenings, great cinematography, a stunning performance by an ensemble cast! What's not to like?
It doesn't fail to bring on the chaos throughout Naomi Price's character's journey and every scene with her in it makes me wish we could have more of her mystery in my daily life. We are left in a state of wonder to decipher for ourselves what the director intended. When I see an actor in this industry that can transport me into the story and their rollercoaster of a ride, I see it as a success in storytelling.
As for the overview of what the story is like, think inception meets Mr. Robot meets a mental health crisis. Insane, intricate, eye capturing, we love it all 💕
A work of art and an amazing film to be watched!
Highly recommend if you want a thriller that keeps you on your toes!

Parallax is a strong first outing by writer/director Michael Bachochin. This micro-budget indie sci-fi slowly unfolds into a paced psychological mystery that does not tread a path you would expect. This is a paced film, philosophic and articulate, with surprising moments that will leave thinking about theme and meaning.
Fine performances here from Naomi Prentice and Nelson Ritthaler who carry the narrative throughout. Some of the elements are at once arthouse and philosophical, and as it all started coming together I found it quite engaging. I look forward to the next production from Bachochin.

It took a while to see what was up to a degree, yet the why's were never fleshed out. It had a type of Matrix vibe with the mental conveyance to another timeline with different scenarios. And the copper coiled head dress and the magic mushroom concoction was unique and kind of hilarious.
I felt that the actors characterizations were good for what they were given. Somewhat cheesy dialog for various characters and it did bog down several times after I had gotten a finger on where this was going, so it did become tedious. And the ending felt rushed and a jumble mess that left me with a "Is that it?" No answer to the whys, as in the Matrix, it was to gain an advantage in the fight against the machines. I did not see a reason why was any of this necessary.
Too many unanswered questions with the added twist left me questioning, didn't the writers feel a need to give some background or validity factor to new participants in the story,
5 out of 10.

I'm not a film critic, so I may not be able to fully articulate why I enjoyed this film and believe it does a good job of putting you in a mind-space of disarray.
The acting from the lead is wonderful, and she does a great job of conveying a confused painter who finds special solace in her work.
The story is a bit chopped up and everywhere, but I believe that's purposefully done, to put the viewer in a similar state as Naomi, the main character.
The Cinematography is also used in aiding the story's sense of confusion and unease. Shots are framed in unfamiliar ways creating a dissonance for viewers. Visual cues for when and where shots take place are subtly laid into the background giving the viewer something to ground against once the story has set the stage and gets rolling.
If you enjoy Indie Thrillers, I would recommend this film for sure. The psychological aspects hit strongly after experiencing COVID lockdown.

At first, I wasn't really sure where the story was going. Shots and scenes felt jarring an disconnected. But it quickly becomes obvious that was by design. As the narrative picked up steam, I became fully immersed in the cinematic language the director and cinematographer had developed.
Naomi Prentice delivers an enthralling performance as our lead. It is an incredibly difficult challenge for an actor to keep an audience engaged with a seemingly emotionless character. And yet, there is an element to this performance that is deeply emotional.
If you want to watch something that will surprise you, definitely check this one out.
