"Hekimoglu" is a brilliant Turkish adaptation of the globally renowned medical drama "House M. D." The series stands out for its captivating storytelling, intriguing medical cases, and complex character dynamics. Timucin Esen delivers a masterful performance as Dr. Ates Hekimoglu, a genius doctor with a sharp mind and a rebellious attitude. His portrayal brings depth and nuance to the character, balancing humor, intellect, and vulnerability. The supporting cast complements his role perfectly, creating a rich ensemble that enhances the overall narrative. With its engaging plot, smart dialogue, and well-executed tension, "Hekimoglu" offers a fresh take on the medical drama genre, making it a must-watch for fans.
It's a successful remake of House M.d for Turkish viewers. Although the actor who plays Gregory House was criticised harshly at first for not resembling our doctor, Timucin Esen does a wonderful job acting as the Turkish version of House. He is A more acceptable, less annoying but as much cynical type as the original one. For someone who hasn't watched the original series before, Hekimoglu is worth watching.
This series is neither a proper adaptation nor a series on its own. It's rather a unique entity with both original ideas and adaptation. Which means it should be reviewed as such.
As a Turkish series it might be one of the best Turkish TV series with intriguing scenarios and unexpectedly well acting (at least for some actors).
As an adaptation it's, unfortunately, a bad one. The most important thing that went bad is its acting. Here you can't see enough the roguishness, sarcasm and hypocrisy of House. Usage of metaphors is uncomparable. The daring, games and sincerity of House are also not well preserved. Hekimoglu here is rather a mad genius physician than being House.
The diagnostics team is rubbish. I can't even watch them. Cause it clearly can be seen that they act neither natural nor like real ones. The dialogues between themselves are horrendous. When you watch House M.D you see that the dialogues between House and his team are beyond any standard team of colleagues. In House M.D you can see that the diagnostics team is like a group of individuals with no respect to each other, easily mock themselves out and generally harshly criticise House for his unproven diagnostics.
This series reminds me of another thing about why this series is a bad adaptation: Culture. American culture and Turkish culture are pretty separate. They have almost nothing in common in many aspects of life. They differ in lifestyles, the general attitude towards anyone, traditions etcetera.
In conclusion as a Turkish series, it's 8/10, as an adaptation it's 3/10.
The thing is If you want to make a successful adaptation with so much dissimilarity between two cultures, you either adapt it properly or not do it at all. Because with this rubbish dialogues and inadequate acting, this series will never be good as the real one.
