It looks very, very nice the tribute to classic colorful horror movies of the 80s like "Creepshow", "Night of the Creeps" or the saga "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in this sublime short film and has an excellent story: Fran (played by the great Chema Ponze, who is also a cartoonist and short film director like me) the typical maladjusted teenager has built a theremin an instrument that is played without being touched, to communicate with his platonic love Sarah Clockwork (played by the singer and one of the icons of the Madrid scene Alaska), a therminist who was abducted years ago by Martians because they loved that music that uneducated humans did not know how to appreciate, Fran believes that with his own theremin he could communicate with Sarah, but when he plays it instead of attracting the therminist he attracts the Martians to Earth unintentionally, who inject a kind of green mucus through tubes to humans alive or dead turning them into Martians who love Clockwork's music like them.
Finally, someone with so much talent, guts, and good ideas like Dani Moreno has created a 100% fictional world in Spain. This is truly bizarre and fantastic cinema, with a brilliant combination of zombies and Martians, influences from 1950s Z-series films about alien invaders, and a return to the baroque aesthetic of 1980s horror films. I loved it; I'd never seen anything like it. It's very well directed and well written. From the first time I saw this amazing short film, I immediately became a fan and good friend of Dani's. I was lucky enough to see him in person at the 2019 Barcelona Comic Fair and talk about our things. The guy is a genius with so much talent. In addition to making cool videos on YouTube, he also edits the fanzine "Amazing Monsters," dedicated to 80s geek culture, and he's a rock n' roll singer. He used to have a band called "Motorzombis," and now he plays solo.
No production company has yet dared to finance Dani's first feature film. They have no idea what those hypocrites are missing out on. But Dani isn't the only one in the country who can't get his film off the ground. Other geniuses and artists in the short film world aren't getting funding to make their own feature films, simply because the national film industry hires relatives or friends of the rich, instead of ordinary, working-class people with ideas and ambitions to make films with geeky themes and mindsets.
It is sad that Spanish public money is squandered on subsidizing social melodramas, forced humor and political speeches about the civil war, it is as if Pilar Miró and her harsh and disgusting Miró law had never left, almost nobody wants to make this type of cinema like the one we see reflected in "Martians Go Home!: la venganza de Sara Clockwork", there are producers who do not have enough balls to make horror, fantasy and science fiction just to stay within budget, they always decide to film the harsh reality, we cannot continue like this.
