Wait for Me

Wait for Me is a journey to face our deepest fears from a point of view of a teenage girl, in a minimalistic world of realism and fantasy.

The creator and director - Sari Turgeman, places the plot inside a claustrophobic space in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, and creates an uncomfortable contrast (and somewhat a physical irritation) of trapped emotions, begging to be released to the air. This idea is portrayed beautifully by the restrained performance of Hallel (Maya).

Hallel's debut performance is impressive and authentic (unlike the expected over-compensating performance of emerging young actors), and I believe we will see her again on the big screen very soon.

I was impressed by how the characters of the family seemed so naturally and profoundly connected, considering the fact that some of them never act in the same scenes or share the same space.

On a personal note, this film touched me on a deep level. I admit I cried twice during the film - once towards the end and again during the final scene.

Without a doubt, this is a film you'd want to watch on the big screen. The beautiful camera shots, together with an extraordinary sound work, allowed me to feel the full blast of the sea and enter Sari Turgeman's emotional world without looking back.

A film that looked interesting, but was killed by the poor script and the wooden acting of the main character.

The main character, Maya, runs away from home in search of her father. She is joined by Nikos - a sailor looking for happiness in another country. Unfortunately, the main couple cannot cope, the relationship between them is stiff and unnatural. You don't feel the chemistry between them at all. Stiff dialogues don't help. Hallel - the actress playing the main character, fares really bad - as if she was reading from a sheet of paper. Daniel - the actor playing Nikos fares a bit better. Hallel is quite convincing when she says nothing and looks sadly at the ocean.

The positive side of the film is its technical layer. Photos, montage show the sea in all its beauty. The music track is well suited to the emotions accompanying the characters. Adi, the actress who plays Maya's mother, is doing very well. Her scenes with Ofek (playing her brother) were one of the strongest points of the film.

Too bad the wasted potential of the film. It could have been really good, but the script and actress playing the main character put the film down.

A Wonderful film, done very Intimately, but full of love and pain. The story of a young women who has to grow up, made through a sea voyage is a simple but precise metaphor.

Personally I Loved the cinematography and editing, grate original score and a mesmerizing actors.

Especially I would point out the the lead actress (first role ever) who gave a hart breaking performance.

The magical but realistic ending is beautiful in its simplicity, giving the whole journey a bitter sweet taste. For me this made this film a wonderful impression of life, expressing the pains of growth of human beings in general, and of one young women in particular.
