I am a great believer in railroads, but when this short was made, they were going through a tough period of underinvestment, which resulted in the near-collapse of the industry in the 1960s. Still, the basic point, that railroads are an economical way of moving goods of all sorts from source to market is a good one.

Gilmore spent ten years in radio before his first appearance in the movies. Actually, he was rarely seen in the movies. If you wanted a radio to spout some information necessary to the plot, or needed someone to narrate a Joe McDoakes short, or even play the moon, he was your man for almost 60 years. He died in 2010 at the age of 98.
