Damascena. Prehodat

Handsome artist, some beautiful scenes, but nothing more.

Having leaved through this period, the film just looks too fake, too impossible. Scene after scene.

I watched it out of curiosity but if you have anything better to do, a walk, a meditation, it would be time better spent.

I should have better know just by the name of the film. All can be condensed more usefully in an hour long documentary.

The illiterate but beautiful girl is perhaps the least fitting if all characters. Such girls unless gypsies simply didn't exist. If gypsy, she wouldn't be left on the street with her baby... But this isn't even a love story.

The end is especially bad. I wish to believe only that such businessmen exist in real life.

I loved this film. It takes us deep into the soul of Bulgaria, showing us the hardships and dilacerating dilemmas its people have faced during and after the fall of totalitarianism. Philosophical, yet full of motion and emotion - I think that this film conveys hope and shows how strong people in Bulgaria can be and how they can achieve great things when they overcome petty rivalry, no matter what their ethnic background is.

The main character, Techo, is a modern day hero - an idealist doing his best to make the world around him a better and a kinder place. He is in many ways inspirational. The way he turns anger and dissapointment into something positive - even for his enemies, is a lesson of wisdom in itself. There are other characters who are also very well imagined and acted out - such is the case of Techo's cousin, his father - a true messenger-philosopher in the film and, of course, Gyula! :)
