Wallachia: Reign of Dracula was inspired by the true story of Ottoman ruler Sultan Mehmed II's invasion of Wallachia and his campaigns to the seat of power, Targoviste, in 1462. Accompanying Mehmed was Vlad III's younger brother Radu Cel Frumos (Radu The Fair/Handsome, also known as Radu Bey), who was a commander of the Sultan's janissaries. Eventually, Targoviste would fall to Ottoman Empire forces and Vlad III was forced to flee to the neighboring kingdom of Hungary, where he was imprisoned for 12 years on the false charge of treason.
