Rites Of Summer

In this short film from Walter Lantz's cartoon studio, we get to witness the classic fairy tale as a ballet with a surprise ending.

It didn't take long for animators to start making commercials, or as they called them, industrial films; even the Lumieres were making ads for Sunlight Soap by 1896. Industrial film making was a lot less chancy than theatrical releases, and so forth several years in the 1950s, Lantz would make long-form commercials for Coca-Cola. This is one of them. It shows a nice, adult sense of humor and if it's not as beautifully rendered as a theatrical cartoon would be, that's because they had a budget and the profit was built in at this level of film making.
