Trigger Happy

Trigger Happy is a black comedy about a completely insufferable and unlikable man who is miserable, and instead of doing things to change his life for the better, he decides to kill his wife for the life insurance. Annie is a bit annoying and seems to have OCD, but she has apparently been financially supporting this loser for years.

The film unfolds in absurd situations with a bunch of characters who are patently awful in some way, the only likable ones being Kent who owns the convenience store and long suffering, pie making Mikey.

I was going to give this a 5 for being okay and watchable but the last few scenes try to milk the audiences sympathy for George, who is a terrible person. He is not likable, not relatable, he doesn't deserve a break, his wife should divorce him, and he has no plans in life other than to murder his spouse. The fact that the director had the unmitigated gall to make this like George is some kind of victimized every man says truly terrible things about that directors personality.

This movie was a train wreck that you couldn't look away from beginning to end.

Acting was horrible. I have seen high school plays with better acting

Universe was just weird. A world of misogyny, all men are weak and unintelligent. Women all treat them like animals and they accept it.

Plot was worse. The plot doesn't even show itself till nearly half the movie is over. Even then it's half baked and asinine.

Ending was only pleasurable because it meant it was over. I was so happy when it ended, because I felt like if it hadn't ended when it did, it never would have.

0/10. Don't waste your time with this farce of a movie.

This film is like stepping into a parallel universe where gender roles are flipped. Men struggle to keep up while two strong, complex women take center stage. One is chasing her career, the other is cheating on her husband, who stays home baking and simmering with jealousy. The dynamic between them is fascinating, and while the budget is clearly modest, the scenes are well-crafted and the acting solid. It's refreshing to see this kind of role reversal played out so boldly. The rating only just tells me that most people don't get it. It challenges norms in a way that feels both uncomfortable and thought-provoking, exactly what good art should do. For me, it's a solid 8.
