So someone opted to make a film about a young girl filming herself. This movie embodies everything that is wrong with the narcissistic society we live in today with the self-centered social media "influencers", which essentially is just a fancy word for "freeloader".
Had I known that "Lianne" was nothing more than a movie about a young girl walking around with her phone in hand 24/7 and live streaming herself for an audience, then I would have dumped it like last months garbage. Yeah, I absolutely abhor social media freeloaders, so I have to admit that writer Adam Kolodny and director Steve Haining never stood a snowball's chance in Hell to deliver something that catered to me.
Yet, I still opted to give the movie the benefit of the doubt, on the way, way, way, way off chance that the movie would prove entertaining. But the narcissistic filming myself aspect of the movie just made all the hairs on my arms and back of the neck stand up.
Though I have to say that writer Adam Kolodny put together quite a dull and boring script and storyline. It failed on several accounts to entertain me, and not just because it was a movie about a social freeloader. The narrative was so very slow paced and uneventful and at 32 minutes into the 74 minute runtime, I was good and ready to pull the plug. Yet, I managed to endure and carry on.
And the audience were to believe that by filming herself walking around inside an old, dark house then she managed to raise over 15 million dollars? Right...
Needless to say that I was, of course, not familiar with a single actress or actor on the cast list. I can't claim that there was much of any acting going on, as it was essentially just one girl filming herself with a handheld phone camera.
As for "Lianne" being a horror movie? Well, if uneventfulness counts as horror, then you're in for quite a treat.
My rating of director Steve Haining's 2022 movie "Lianne" lands on a one out of ten stars.
