Memories of a Burning Body

What a wonderful, simple and moving story of a life. Like all the best stories, this film dignifies the ordinary. Everyone has a story to tell. It highlights the bravery and fortitude we all possess, and how no event or circumstance can enslave who we really are. The film floats effortlessly between time and memory. It is inventive and tender and understated. I hope that this film is seen more widely as it shows that we can all break free from our past and begin with as many fresh starts as we desire. Lastly, love is shown to be timeless and that it can be enjoyed as intensely in old age as it is in youth. Beautiful.

Up front, I left after 1 hour. I hoped it would get better, it didn't.

I am a little older than the women depicted; maybe I was lucky and had more choices. The experiences depicted were not mine. But if you're going to make an artwork you need to more than simply record.

There were no layers, only tedious memories.

What about holding those institutions for this oppression to account? Reflect on who or what maybe responsible? What about the church's role? What about the family's role? What about economic/political context?

The issues raised have been done to death in many movies, novels, documentaries, we need insights now, not just memories.
