This comedy/drama is a frustrating journey of two half-sisters who come from different worlds. The first season is a rollercoaster of emotions that is heavy on drama and ends on a sour, disappointing note.
The two leading ladies, one from Canada and the other from Ireland, are billed as polar opposites, but that dynamics gets tiresome after a while. Unfortunately, the male characters in the show are portrayed as pathetic, one-dimensional caricatures, which adds to the show's depressing feminist perspective. (The boyfriend character is particularly unbearable.)
The show's social commentary is heavy-handed and predictable, touching on topics such as alcoholism, abortion, family dynamics, and cultural differences. It is exhausting to see a show that attempts to tackle serious issues while still managing to be completely boring and predictable. The excessive drinking in the show adds nothing to the characters' development and feels like a cheap attempt at adding some kind of levity.
The humor in the show is obnoxious and often falls flat. The cutting and sarcastic remarks are uninspired, and the black humor is cringe-worthy. While dialogue is witty in places, the show's writers do a terrible job of balancing the humor with the serious moments, making the show an unenjoyable experience.
In conclusion, Sisters (2023) is a disappointing addition to the comedy-drama genre. Despite having a strong cast and a potentially compelling storyline, the show's execution is subpar. The show's commentary on gender roles is preachy and uninteresting, and the humor is insipid. My advice is to avoid watching it altogether. The quality declines as the show progresses, and the last two episodes are a complete letdown.

I tried out IFC's SisterS because it seemed something pleasant to watch over dinner rather than the usual Fair of death, butchery, zombies, battles, and other bloodletting.
The first episode got me interested. Episodes two and three were a bit slower on the character setup, but then it got rolling with the anticipation of a payoff.
To me, what it offered was clever writing, very good acting and pretty good production.
So all in all it did speak to me emotionally and I ended up looking forward to see the next episode and the next and the next. Then it capped off with a surprise ending!
So I'm looking forward to a second season to see what the girls are going to get into next.

I'm surprised this series has gotten so many good reviews and high IMDb ratings. I personally found it just a little bit funny, a little bit interesting, and a little bit dramatic. Once I realized it doesn't have a lot to offer, I was already a couple episodes in and just basically forced myself to finish what I started since there are (so far) only six relatively short episodes. I definitely won't be spending any more time watching future episodes should they come along. It's new and a somewhat different, and if you don't set the bar very high I suppose it is actually "watchable". Skip it though, and you won't have missed much.
My husband and I LOVED this show and watched the six episodes in two days. It ended in a cliffhanger, so we will be hoping for a second series. I agree with the author of the "Full of Heart" review - we laughed out loud over and over again. We were sad that it only lasted three hours.
The acting was convincing and the main parts - as well as the supporting roles - are well acted.
In response to reviewers seeking a message or a deeper meaning: Everything doesn't need to be cerebral, does it? Surely we aren't all such sophisticates that we can't enjoy a good laugh. If deeper meaning is what you're looking for, let me paraphrase a line from the show: Don't go shopping at a hardware store, if it's oranges you're after.
In other words, if you're looking for something deep, skip it. If you enjoy some good Irish situations and humor, this might be the show for you!

Spoliler---- I'm Irish.
Now the Irish Times slaughtered this. Somehow this was put about as the new "Fleabag" Well lets put that to rest right now.
We Irish with our new found wealth are very sensitive about how others view us, a certain snobbishness about how others portray us. If we're not ultra cool, Euro trash with ponytails we're insulted. Well some are.
A few good Irish actors show themselves now and again. Hope you've been paid and paid well for this, you wont be getting invites to any Dalkey soirees or even to St Bono Salon.
Of course the Irish lads are either drunks or poetic sympathy Gods.
What's going on is beyond my comprehension.
I've really tried to say something positive but its hard when nothing happens.
Dont hold your breath for Series 2 .
