The story in this film isn't going to blow anyone away, but it kept me connected for its short runtime, and I loved its beautiful visuals and cast. A waiter at a hostess bar commits a cardinal sin by beginning to date one of the new girls, and while things are light and charming between the two of them initially, he soon spirals into jealousy when a rich client takes a special interest in her too.
There's commentary on toxic male possessiveness here and it was ironic that the waiter was upset at being invisible as her lover (so that clients would call or text her in the middle of the night), but also upset at her showing off their relationship by posting pictures of them together on social media (because he knew it was against the rules). It seemed like a no-win situation for her from the beginning. There's also commentary on class, as the rich aren't particularly generous and enjoy their hedonism while those working in the bar are trying to eke out a living on their tips. "Think I like having guys touch me every night?" the young woman tells her boyfriend, revealing the bitter truth behind her smiles.
I liked all that but the film fell a little short in that there wasn't a lot of nuance to how these things were explored, and the story was pretty conventional after a good setup. Would like to see more of Ougie Pak's work though.
