Black Rabbit is about when an owner of one of the hottest restaurants in New York (Jude Law) lets his troubled brother (Jason Bateman) back around the family business he brings a whole lot of trouble for both him and his brother. So much so that it threatens to bring down the business and endanger their lives. This is a tense crime story with really interesting characters that will hold your attention throughout each episode. I binged all 8 episodes in only two days. I can't say enough about Bateman and Law. They were terrific. I wouldn't be shocked to see them nominated for some awards for this, especially Bateman.
Black Rabbit is a gritty crime thriller starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law. Going into this my expectations was that this will be the next Ozark...I was wrong. It's nothing like Ozark. That doesn't mean this is bad, it's just not as good as Ozark was. The reason this is so good is the acting performances by Bateman and Law. Both were as good as ever. This probably could've been done in 6 episodes because there are times where it slows down to the point where they could've cut some time out. Other than that it's absolutely worth watching.

Well, what can I say?
Black Rabbit is one of those rare limited series that grips you from the very first scene and refuses to let go. The writing is razor sharp, the pacing is meticulous and the performances are nothing short of magnetic. Jude Law and Jason Bateman bring a gritty depth to their roles, creating a world that feels raw, lived-in and morally complex.
One of the standout touches is the episode introductions, which cleverly pay homage to Ozark. Each episode opens with a sleek, symbolic graphic that foreshadows the themes and events about to unfold. It's subtle yet striking and it adds an extra layer of anticipation before the story even kicks in. For viewers who appreciated Ozark's visual storytelling, this will feel like a respectful nod while still carving out its own identity.
The cinematography leans heavily into shadows and muted palettes, enhancing the tension without ever feeling forced. Meanwhile, the soundtrack complements the mood perfectly, weaving in and out without overshadowing the drama.
Overall, Black Rabbit is dark, deliberate and deeply compelling. It's not just another thriller - it's prestige television done right, with every detail (down to the graphics at the start of each episode) contributing to the atmosphere. If you loved Ozark but want something fresh with its own unique flavour, this is a must-watch.
If you're a film junkie like myself then you'll appreciate the time and effort that Zach Baylin and everyone else put in to make this happen.
I enjoyed it. Not my place to say where it could have been improved. It is what it is.
Thank you.

Every bad decision leads to another problem and another bad decision, ratcheting up the pressure on both Jude Law and Jason Bateman. The pressure gave me anxiety - in a good way.
I don't want to give too much away but the twists and turns have you yelling " no!!!" To the main characters as they wander intro another problem.

There is no instant gratification with Black Rabbit. The story unfolds slowly and thoughtfully, it's not a hit of action and then onto the next scene.
It's apparent from a lot of the low scoring reviews that the viewer just didn't understand or isn't suited to this type of show. Black Rabbit is an intentional and immersive slow burn that pulls you in, leaves you wanting more.
Law and Bateman both do great jobs as two very different brothers that share a deep bond. At times it's frustrating as they act against their better interests but as the story unfurls you actually find yourself rooting for them.
This isn't a show for everyone but I was incredibly sad when it was over. I loved it.

This was an entertaining show, Jude Law was excellent, and I think it was a good cast they put together. It was stressful and you really didn't know what would happen next.
I understand the bad reviews though. I think my biggest recommendation when you go into this would be, to just enjoy the ride. Don't try to poke holes in the plot, don't overthink it, or else you will get frustrated.
While the plot could have been brushed up, it was entertaining and I think it is a mesh between Bloodlines, The Bear, and Ozarks. I would recommend giving this a watch, just don't over think it and enjoy a tv show.

What a treat your in for, if you give this a go, Acting is impeccable from everyone, looks the part too, fantastic story line really pulls you in, a little slow to start but as each episode goes by it picks up more & more pace, so definitely don't give up on this early doors, it has everything drama, thriller, comedy, love you name it but essentially its about family, Bateman & law really shine in this one.

Black Rabbit is a masterclass in slow lingering suspense, a series that rewards patient viewers with a deeply satisfying and thought provoking experience. While some might be initially taken aback by its deliberate pacing and dialogue-heavy scenes, these elements are not a weakness but the very foundation of its strength. The show understands that true tension isn't always found in frantic action, but in the quiet, charged spaces between people, in the unspoken histories and simmering resentments.

I enjoyed the watch. It's a story about how family trauma can jack us up for life, with shame morphing to self-sabotage; all wrapped up into a tense crime thriller. I see poor reviews saying "the characters do stupid things that I wouldn't do", well ya ..they are all jacked up & then caught up in keeping it all together, such is what movies are made of.
For me, the characters actions jibe with how early trauma may have impacted them.
They create chaos that reflects their inner turmoil which seeks resolution, one way or another.
The greater ensemble of characters offers up more interesting characters with depth & we are brought into their world - a hot hipster NYC restaurant/bar which the plot line always threatening its demise. NYC is a character along with own diversity of players ie artsy hipsters v. Coney Island thugs.
Maybe we have to have some empathy with unlikable characters to enjoy the series? Maybe we have to be okay with both rooting for a character & subsequently not rooting for them & back again?

Black Rabbit follows two brothers: Jake (Jude Law), who runs a restaurant and tries to keep a steady life, and Vince (Jason Bateman), freshly out of prison and back on the scene. Their reunion doesn't spark redemption but rather chaos, dragging everyone around them into a destructive spiral.
The show presents itself as a slow burner, but patience isn't rewarded. Unlike Ozark, which balanced tension with tight logic, Black Rabbit feels more like a messy patchwork. The narrative jumps between past and present in seemingly random bursts, sometimes to stall, sometimes to fill space, without much payoff. What could have been clever misdirection instead feels like disorientation.
The bigger issue is that many events lack internal logic. Plot turns appear designed less to develop characters and more to stretch the runtime or create the illusion of complexity. It seems the creators placed their bets on unpredictability alone, hoping confusion would equal intrigue. For me, it was more frustrating than engaging.
The cast is solid; Law and Bateman have presence, but even they can't fully disguise the structural emptiness. There are flashes of tension and style, but too often they collapse under scenes that meander without purpose.
In the end, Black Rabbit wants to be a moody, unpredictable character study, but it lands closer to a frustrating puzzle without a satisfying reward. Not terrible, but far from the gripping ride it promises.

I watched into Black Rabbit with some hope, but the deeper it goes, the dumber it gets. The writing feels lazy, the story makes less and less sense with each episode, and character choices are completely illogical. Instead of tension and clever twists, it just spirals further down a hole of bad decisions and forced drama.
People compare it to Ozark, but it's nowhere close. Ozark had tight writing, layered characters, and stakes that actually mattered. Black Rabbit feels like a watered-down knockoff that doesn't know what it wants to be.
By the end, I was more frustrated than entertained. If you value coherent storytelling and smart character development, this one will leave you disappointed and frustrated really...

A lot a bad choices leading to bad situations.
Makes for good TV. The acting is great throughout. But the real star of the show is the soundtrack, takes me feel New York.
Bateman is really coming into his stride with his writing and directing.
Jude Law plays the likeable unlikeable guy well.
Look forward to whatever he does next.

We binge watched this as we were hooked and can honestly say it was brilliant. Jude Law and Jason Bateman are exceptional and although a slow burn it was a great storyline that just got better and better.....
Huge shout out to all the actors, they were ALL phenomenal and really enjoyed them. I write a lot of reviews and this was an easy write up - well done!!!

Black Rabbit has received criticism for there not being enough empathy with the central characters. While I would agree with this to a degree, Bateman and Law put in some powerful performances that are worth watching. My wife and I ended the series with a discussion about their relationship, so it must have left some kind of impression on us.
It's another one of those series where you need to work your way through the chaotic first episode before settling into the lives of the characters.
The sibling relationship between Bateman and Law, while not perfect, was convincing enough to be compelling. Bateman in particular was a force of nature. It's one of those shows that might not leave a lasting impression, but is entertaining enough to give it a go.

I usually don't take in tv shows even limited series but this peaked my interest. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it grabbed my attention and kept it there. I've never watched a series this fast but it was compelling, well thought out, brilliantly acted and most likely the best Netflix film or series I've seen. Usually I am turned off by their fare, however, Black Rabbit was well wroth my time.

The series starts strong, setting up a murky world where family, business, and crime collide. It has all the ingredients of a good thriller: tension, betrayal, and characters trapped in moral dilemmas. However, as it moves forward, it feels like the wrapping is more powerful than the story it's actually telling.
Jason Bateman and Jude Law carry much of the weight with intense performances, and visually the production is impeccable, with that prestige-drama look Netflix aims for. But beneath the polished surface, it often feels hollow, as if the story circles around without fully biting into its own potential.
There are, of course, highlights - gripping moments and a finale that leaves its mark. The problem lies in the journey: some episodes drag on and dilute the initial tension.
In the end, Black Rabbit stands as an attractive thriller with shiny packaging and solid acting, but one that doesn't quite push its premise as far as it could. It's entertaining, engaging in parts, but ultimately leaves you wishing for more.

Somewhat enjoyable but as it went on I couldn't take the constant scenes of the two stooges shaking down Bateman and Law's characters. Never seen so much time spent developing these two clown characters and the weird relationship they have. The seedy underbelly of NYC definitely is represented well, so much so that you need a shower after every episode.
Stick it out, it is most definitely worth it. Each episode gets better and better building to a perfect ending, which is something I don't say lightly. The acting is terrific all around and the music and vibe are married perfectly with the narrative. I can't recommend highly enough!
If you even mildly enjoy Jason Bateman and/or Jude Law this is a must watch.

Thankfully the acting is fantastic throughout, otherwise it would be a real struggle to make it through the bulk of this show.
I think it starts well with a strong but simple premise. The tried and trusted - chaotic brother returns home and brings all of his problems with him. I think the last two episodes are great and what really makes this show worth watching, but the journey there leaves much more to be desired.
It's hard to break this show into 1st 2nd and 3rd acts as the first two mangle into one long slog of context and world building for characters that it is hard to care about. The 3rd act just about makes up for it but I can't help it wouldn't have worked much better in a feature film format opposed to an 8 hour show.
I was also let down with the promise of Jason Bateman leaving the straight man role and playing more of a chaotic character. I was excited to see this and while on paper it's there, I wasn't sold that he was as out of control as he was painted to be and was more a victim of his situations. On the other hand, Jude Laws character I found more and more deplorable as the story unfolded.
Complaints aside I did end up enjoying this, I thought the directing from Jason Bateman was fantastic as always. I specifically enjoyed some unexpected shots (following speeding car from a window, brothers talking on the phone from each side of the bridge), handheld camera work was really well done and some of the over the shoulder shots were awesome.
7/10 Worth a watch but don't get too excited.

The series has great performances by Jason Bateman and Jude Law, the two leads. I just moved away from NYC, and I enjoyed the Manhattan sites, including some suspenseful scenes in the diamond district.
The plot is a bit uneven, and there are definitely some great episodes and some meh ones. Overall, it was a compelling watch! Recommend it!
