Gurudev Hoysala

Dhananjay spearheads this movie in the titular character, a no nonsense cop who will go to any extent to get justice. He is assigned the missing case of another officer and transferred to Athani. There he comes across two lovers who have eloped and are illegally detained in his police station. He gets the two married only to rile up the girl's family who are extremely castiest and obviously criminals. As the issue gets sensitive, it is upto Gurudev to find the couple and the process gives him a lead on the missing officer.

The film does highlight the Honour killing and the prevailing casteism. Despite treading with familiar tropes, the screenplay remains fairly engaging throughout. With solid villains especially Naveen Shankar as Bali, the director's job is made much easier in elevating Dhananjay's Gurudev Hoysala. There are several heroic scenes and Dhananjay had a blast enacting them. As much predictable the story is, the entertaining factor remained intact.

I for one, wished for a proper / longer showdown between Gurudev and Bali. Their final fight felt too short. Gurudev Hoysala is still a solid watch as far as commercial potboilers go.

Movie is packed with all necessary commercial elements. The main plot revolves around honour killing and caste system which is very rare to see in modern Kannada cinema. Movies like Bhootayyana maga Ayyu, Hemavathi,Janumada Jodi were few daring attempts and the that spark is now carried over to Hoysala movie.

We might get few shades of Koshiyum Ayyapunam, Kaithi, Dark Knight.. However those have been blended to match the story.

Message they want to convey is very strong and sensitive and I totally appreciate Director's choice to make this a commercial flick. The teams intention to subtle the impact with commercial elements is clever. The character Bhoomi cannot be the Shosanna Dreyfus as caste system in Karnataka is still deep rooted and its hard to burn it down in a movie theatre. Hence even to whisper against this deep rooted caste system, one must be courageous.

Additionally movie also speaks about role of media, duties of cops and helplessness of police due to corrupt system around them. Hoysala is a symbol of ideal police officer that our society needs. These ideals are necessary for modern youths. Thanks to the Hoysala team for providing necessary medicines sandwiched with all masala elements!

Gurudev Hoysala- Fast paced action movie with the right display of what "meter iro" (Kannada word) cop who knows no bounds to fight for the rights and justice.

Story and screenplay is clean and executed really well by the director Vijay Naagendra.

Dhananjaya roars like a LION KING and goes after the brutal jungle. He wears his khaki as the pride of honor, combined with his superior acting and style.

Background music and editing is spot on. Action sequences are well made. Rest of the characters have supported well and gels with the plot.

Watch it on Prime as the cop hits the baddies and gives justice.

A complete entertainer , which was very much needed in this month for kannada movie buffs.

Plot : our hero is on investigation, where is senior office goes missing in that city , so our hero will try to find him , and then what and all problems will come and twists will come is pretty good .

Positives

1. The direction and making : The director vijay naagendra has an urge to make something unique in same routine story, and it worked for me , some scenes which will remain in my head like villain entry scene to emotional dialogue, everything got me , even though it was predictable. So thank you vijay , and make some more unique movies , I am waiting.

2 . All actors acting, every main actors in this movie has some depth in role , which makes a good watch .

3 . Music , ajaneesh Loknath has given some good music for movie , but given badass music for naveen Shankar, which made me whistle for him .

4 . Here they are trying to solve castesim problem in a common man feeling , not in any impact full scale or in any law basis , but these little tries may actually change the society.

Negatives

1. I enjoyed the movie even if it's same story I want some thing uniqueness and this one gave me , I am satisfied , but who can't watch same story and similar writing this is not for you .

Was expecting something else to watch the film but it turned out to be a masala film. The film raises its voice on the caste system, which is right and I also consider it wrong. But every story has two sides. We see how many girls lose their lives at the hands of boys who are just using them. But in every film only parents are shown wrong but who will tell how to avoid boys with wrong intentions Caste is not big or small, it is a person's thinking. The film seems illogical at many places and the story of the film is also quite predictable. The protagonists have done a decent job and the supporting cast is also fine, but the focus of the film was on Gurudev's character. And yes, there is a dialogue at the beginning of the film that "every language is respected in Karnataka" so I would like to correct it. No, no other language is respected in your Karnataka, I have experienced this myself and you will find hundreds of videos and news articles about it.
