A fine evening's entertainment and more!

Happened on "The Drop" unexpectedly, came away both entertained as a media consumer and inspired as a storyteller.

I didn't quite get it when I watched the trailer, and now that makes perfect sense in retrospect. On the surface, this is patterned on the archetypal and ever-engaging Guy Richie-esque storyline where the gangster realm that lurks at the edge of our consciousness intrudes unexpectedly into our everyday lives.

But this also operates on an entirely different level as a film by a filmmaker about filmmaking. Nothing heavy-handed in this, just a light framing in this story-within-a-story with an occasional sprinkle of cinematic references. For those watching attentively, these give the opportunity to appreciate the magic of illusion and imagination that lies at the heart of all successful storytelling.
