This was a fairly enjoyable movie with some good dialog (if not the best writing overall) and reasonable performances by the cast (although the actor playing Officer Willis had some odd line readings). I'm not sure that the criticism the lead actress is getting is entirely fair: yes, she came across as a complete dimwit, but that was actually required for the plot to function at all. After all, if she just went to the police immediately after she found the body, and didn't spend most of the movie evading them, the movie would have been five minutes long. I mean, everybody was telling her to hand herself in, even the killer (not a spoiler, like I said *everybody* was telling her to hand herself in). Yes, there was physical evidence against her, and it was believable that she would be scared to go to the police; but it clearly was her best, if not only, option. But, like I said, the performance made her actions believable. Since, as far as I can remember, this is the only thing I've ever seen her in, I'm not sure if this was good acting, good casting, or just good luck, but it was what the movie needed.
This movie looked good but I couldn't get through it. The lead actress, who plays Alyssa, is absolutely awful. Her acting isn't even good enough for community theater, let alone cable television. And not to be mean, but she is very unappealing. Casting her ruined what might have been a decent movie. Lifetime movies are a guilty pleasure but this one was a definite stinker. It is apparently based on true story. Maybe the real version is more interesting than the Lifetime version. Hopefully, when casting future movies, Lifetime will make an effort to hire better actors. As a side note, why does everyone in every Lifetime movie live in big beautiful homes, only drink wine and never lock their doors?
It was billed as "the murder after the night before" on UK channel 5. It is an awful movie. Plot holes, bad acting and sets that are pristine show homes being used by production. I would have given it a 1/10 but it was laughable so gave it a 2/10.
The main character was ridiculous and the writers only gave her a handful of brain cells - I am surprised the character knew how to "investigate" anything. The police were also written as mindless fools - the detectives don't ask for cctv, witness statements or anything. But hey ho, it was a 2pm movie on channel 5 so shouldn't expect much! Probably good for keeping pets company while you're out.

I watched this movie the other day and thought it was just OK. I think the acting was just fine (about what you'd expect from a lifetime movie) but nothing to write home about. I didn't really understand some of the plot points (or plot holes), like the two women's motives (Cindy and the other character, I forget who). I think the movie was overall forgettable: not amazing, not horrible. Definitely could have used another round of editing the script. One Night Stand Murder can be skipped, or maybe watch it while you're cooking dinner, but I wouldn't cancel plans to stay in for a movie night to watch this.
The writing is soo bad. I just can't believe it was made into a movie. Watched on Hulu spontaneously. At first I thought it was bad acting. And maybe it is but hard to tell with that script. Please, whoever greenlit this crap, don't make anymore. I don't usually do Lifetime or Hallmark movies because I know the story is usually the same. Honestly did not realize this was a Lifetime. - PatzerWhen Cindy gave Keller her card, the last part of her email address was the name/initials of her law firm and ".org". It should've been ".com" or something else other than "org", which is only for use "org" by non-profit organizations. Law firms would never end in ".org".
