Soundies were what we'd call music videos these days. From 1940 through 1946, you'd find a Mills Panaram in bars, restaurants, and similar locations. Drop in a dime and you'd get a three-minute film from a reel of ten. They were changed weekly, and in that period, more than two thousand soundies were released by Mills and other producers. The performers varied from big names to unknowns starting out.

Howard was a popular performer of the day, and his good-natured performance here shows why.
