With at least more than 160,000 spectators - that's probably how many tickets were sold - the concert was the largest in the entire history of the GDR. Various estimates put up to half a million spectators, many without tickets, others with fake tickets. In 1988, the GDR had less than 16.7 million inhabitants, so perhaps almost one in 30 of the country's residents attended the concert. It caused extensive traffic jams upon arrival in large parts of the country. The concert, also the largest of Springsteen's career, is also credited with playing a small part in the end of the GDR in 1989 and 1990.
