I love true crime. This show is fast turning into one of the very best out there. Cheers to Sasha Reid and her smart, thoughtful team for spotlighting crime victims who would otherwise be forgotten. I was once asked by a male friend, "why are women so obsessed with serial killers?" I think many people are interested in learning more about what makes a serial killer tick. For women, we can readily and easily empathize with women who have been targeted and murdered by a serial killer. We know it could have easily been us. We also watch to look out for the signs of a psychopath. Knowledge is power. Sasha and her team are bringing that in droves.
Stupid, what a waste of time. I picture these women reporting on the horrors of shopping at Philene's Basement. They cover topics that are long since resolved and make every effort to show there is a conspiracy. I gave this show a try, I just wont waste any more of my time. It is so ridiculous I think even the people they interview seem happy they are going to get a chance to be on TV rather than having to be part of their "solution". I am only taking the time to write this is so no one else gets to lose a couple of hours of their lives on this stupidity. HULU must be desperate to fill time slots. Look for documentaries from Great Britain, Canada has one bomb after the other.
While I don't doubt that Dr. Reid has a PhD in psychology, her claim that she is a « scientist-specialist » in criminology is not sustained by a search for her publications in peer-reviewed journals. I found only one publication (a litterature review - Psychiatr Psychol Law. 2020 Feb 6;27(1):126-137) where her name appears as the second of four authors. This is not an impressive academic profile. Even the name of this series « Sarah Reid and the midnight order » is more suggestive of a J K Rowling novel than a a fact-based documentary. Overall, the script is tedious and verbose, and I have hardly learnt something interesting, although I must admit that I did not find the strength to go beyond the first episode.

Such a great documentary. A testament to determination and also so very much compelling. Makes you ask yourself, "Why is this falling to a civilian?". However, most of the time you are glued to the true crime stories and the details revealed. The filmmaking is complimentary to the subject matter, enhancing, not sensationalizing. This is a story documented, Not a documentary in search of a story or subject. Adding in the seriousness of their work, and it all adds up to informative, rewarding viewing. Highly Recommend. BTW, their work cannot solely be encapsulated by one season. Please bring on Season 2...
So much of the true crime media space is devoted to a kind of voyeurism around pain and suffering, but this series aims to highlight work that is truly victim-centric. It's also really refreshing to show the value of civilian expertise, and the way an outsider's perspective may broaden the scope of understanding a crime or series of crimes-- the more we highlight and talk about this, the more willing police agencies will become to accepting help they desperately need in many cases. Dr. Reid and her team are wonderful, and a great model for those who want to know what it looks like to be devoted to the truth above ego or attention.
