Hosted by Vic Michaelis for the streaming service Dropout, we have Very Important People, a mock talk show featuring characters from all over the globe and galaxy. Each week a comedian guest will join, where they're covered in costuming and prosthetics and must then make up a character on the spot. Obviously for a series which features a new guest each week episodes can of course very, but I must say it is remarkably consistent, I was gut laughing at least once per episode. I sort of slept on this show season one, and for the life of me can't figure out why, I think I was taking it too seriously, which is a nutty thing to say. Vic's serious, deliberately cold demeanour is hilarious when juxtaposed to some of the ridiculousness of the characters, and I loved the clear improv moments which really highlights how fast on their feet all these comedians are. Season two was great, I loved it. Can't wait for more.
Having only seen the first two episodes so far, it's certainly a mixed bag...the Host is perfect, her dead pan responses and clever wit shine but sadly it not always enough. The first episode is Epic, the guest was spot on, the Euro pop process was extremely well done but unfortunately the second episode, "Denzel" fell flat. Every attempt at humor was lame.... Even the character's name was a poor choice. I hope that going forward they have found sharp and talented comics like the first episode. It's understandable that I have never heard of the guest star of the second episode. Going forward I wouldn't expect much buzz around this performance. That said, the host and first star were hilarious and I can't wait for episode 3.

The beauty of this show is that it's an improv exploration of the character "Vic", and how the guests within her show both expose her flaws, and her (few) positive characteristics. The show isn't as much about the guests, it's much more about the exploration of "Vic" 's mind ,and how she treats the people around her. It's a gorgeous little show and the best episodes are both the episodes with Lisa Gilroy, and both the episodes with Zac Oyama(all 4 episodes expose the facade that "Vic" wears while presenting the show, and how outrageously chaotic, and cruel she can be. They also show how she came to be like so which is so..weird and rare considering it's improv? This isn't supposed to happen. This type of character breakdown usually only occur on scripted tv!)

- WissenswertesThis show is a spiritual successor to "Hello, My Name Is", an earlier series by Dropout (then known as CollegeHumor) with a similar premise. In "Hello, My Name Is", the interviewee was always played by Josh Ruben (and once included Thomas Middleditch alongside Ruben), with Pat Cassels acting as the interviewer. Ruben reprises his role as interviewee in episode 5 of Very Important People, portraying Kepl and Dr. Milk.
