Two Women

Watched at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Chloé Robichaud simple tale about womenhood, relationships and female sexuality is a sweet comfort movie. It's narrative doesn't really provide anything special or ground-breaking, but Robichaud demonstrates a good passion project about the lives and love about women in ways that still remain fun and sweet. Provided with a good color presentation and performances from the cast, each of the characters are quirky but simple to navigate. Featuring fun sexy moments that provides some solid comedic relief and purpose.

French Canadian cinema is interesting and Robichaud seems to understand the grip between comedy and drama pretty well. Her directing and the atmosphere approach is balanced perfectly well. However, the narrative, as I said, it's nothing too ground breaking and I did wish there was a bit more energy to certain aspects.

But overall, it's a fun sex comedy movie that is good to watch if you are bored.

It is interesting to see users and critics label this a "retro" sex comedy. It is, because in many ways it is similar to the types of introspective films that were common in the 1960s, worldwide. And yet it is not because, if you dig deep enough, you will find that stage plays about the sexual dynamic between men and women go back to Ancient Greece. At least. Point being, for the entire history of our civilization, no single author, creator, or work has ever definitively solved the biological equation that has men on one side of it, and women on the other. The most you can hope for is an entertaining attempt, and TWO WOMEN -- a poor translation from the original, DEUX FEMMES EN OR, or TWO GOLDEN WOMEN -- is definitely entertaining, and holds the attention. Two women is a film that I really didn't have on my radar at Sundance, but after seeing it, I think it is a hidden gem. The film very much reminds of the worst person in the world, but leaning into the comedy aspect more than the drama , and that's not to say the drama aspect is bad, it's not as compelling as the comedy. Speaking of the comedy, it's hilarious. Seeing these women explore and spice up their sex life in numerous ways is absolutely fun to watch. The film also is carried by its really tight script, really adding to the themes and symbolisms the film has about exploring these women's sex lives and when whether or not they've wasted their lives being in a marriage that as bored them. Two women is a hilarious and clever look the struggles of women's sex live's after marriage,(young or old).
