Bridge Kids

This show is funny as hell , belongs on a mainstream network or sumn bc the writing the comedic style is fire. They need to keep doing what their doing with this. Also don't know why a reviewer thought this show was for kids, watching like 30 secs of this could tell ur answer otherwise... maybe the title of the show got u?? But if that was the case I wouldve shown Kids (1994) to my younger sister a long time ago. Anyways this show rocks on its own and I love it. Moe and skid are hilarious. This show needs more love and praise bc I been obsessed with it for so long!!!! Def check this out now!!!

Indie animation is a medium often dominated by shows that are lacking in the comedic department. Of course, there are plenty of projects that are really, but the most popular examples choose to focus on plot of humor. I wouldn't say this is necessarily a bad thing across the board; it's really just my own personal preference. When these projects do make jokes, it just isn't funny. And this is subjective, but the humor of Vivziepop or Glitch productions just isn't funny. If you're familiar you can probably guess why I would say that. Most indie animation chooses to focus on a serialized plot over comedy.

Bridge kids is slightly different. While there are aspects of horror, which appears often in successful indie animation, it's largely in the background. The comedy is instead put first. This results in an edgy sense of humor that I love, and that combined with the perfectly awkward line delivery gives this show a very Adult Swim vibe. The jokes are also really well written. Episodes often focus on a more slow burn joke that rises throughout the runtime, but there are still jokes in between. The dialogue is delivered so casually that its easy to miss this, but almost every line in the casual conversation between is hilarious. The show also never gets too edgy, to the degree fo something like family guy, which leads to the jokes being a lot more creatively woven into mundane moments. Like for example, one of the characters in a wheel chair. While other shows would use this to make very upfront jokes about it, Bridge Kids decides to use the casual to subtly joke about it. With lines like "It feels like an upper body kind of day," or interactions like "Stomp it out!" "I can't." The writing is just thoroughly genius.

The characters are also great. Given that most of the jokes are delivered through conversations between them, I would be undercutting part of what makes to show great to omit a mention. There are four main characters. The two protagonist: Lars and Fugger present a hilarious dynamic, with Fugger being a guy who pretends to know everything even though most of what he says is so clearly false, and Lars being an extremely calm guy is willing to just go along with anything he says. Their dynamic is elevated even further by Moe and Skid, the two antagonists. Though the only thing that makes them that is the fact that they are constantly making fun of Fugger. Moe is a wannabe rapper who often delivers the funniest casual lines of dialogue, and Skid is his friend with an honestly stronger bond than the two protagonists who is a lot calmer but delivers many similarly hilarious lines to his friend. Isaiah also appears in a few episodes, being a parody of a school shooter. Even though he in't technically a main character his episodes are always constantly hilarious. Most bring up Killer Bars as the best episode that features him, but I think I like Moe's Girl a little bit more.

The show's animation is another part of it that I love. Most shows that are composed heavily of reused assets and rigged characters often look really stiff, but the quality of the rigs(along with the amount of original assets each episode) are able to keep the show looking like everything was animated by hand. The art style is also just in general really pleasing to look at. I love how each character looks comically exaggerated in some way.

And I've been mentioning the humor of the show a lot in speaking of the quality of writing, but the show is just in general really well written. It portrays so many things so accurately. In most media, public school is portrayed as having some sort of social hierarchy where those at the top are very cool and those at the bottom are extremely lame. Bridge Kids portrays this more accurately by displaying that yes, different social statuses do exist, but everyone is just a different flavor of loser. No one can be truly cool. Isaiah is also a great display of how school shooters behave while still being comedic. Yes, his life is somewhat sad, but most of the contempt he holds for himself and the world around are creations of his own mind.
