Sugarcane

I've never been a huge fan of horror movies, especially over the last few years. It just feels like the genre has lost what made it great. Too many predictable plots, cheap jump scares, and recycled ideas that don't bring anything new to the table. So I didn't expect much going into this one. But I have to admit, I was genuinely surprised. It felt fresh and way more thought-out than the usual stuff. It held my attention from start to finish without relying on clichés, and there was a lingering atmosphere that stuck with me after it ended. Even if you're usually skeptical of horror like I am, this one is worth watching. It reminded me that the genre can still deliver something original and memorable when done right.

Sugarcane. Wow. This movie really gets under your skin. It's very creepy and the tone is very well set. Michael Mau is fantastic as Arthur the antagonist. It draws from dark real themes and can be very intense but that's exactly as a horror movie should be. The bunny mask is also quite terrifying and I was very freaked out from beginning to end. The film deals with the topics very well and as much as it has gore, it's not done in a distasteful way at all and is all relevant to the story. I think everyone should be watching this. A definite one to watch for horror in 2025. Great job, highly recommend.
