Condition humaine

I had feared a pretentious load of tosh having regard to the title that echoes that of one of the great novels of the trilogy by Malraux. I was pleasantly surprised as the only parallel with the latter oeuvre was in its pessimism about the human condition, its inexorable descent into darkness and the existential questions of the main characters of both this film and the book.

Marcio is offered a choice and a chance to achieve a better life. The older man who helps him is unaware of how deep he is enmeshed in the escort business specialising in sadistic clients. The choice is there; the final decision is a profoundly bleak one.

This was a worthwhile 22 minutes. I recommend this film.
