    The portrayal of history.

I watched a movie that really resonated with me, especially given the personal connection I have to Russia. It's great that the film helped me gain a deeper understanding of both Russian and Jewish history, particularly during such a turbulent time. It was able to blend emotional storytelling with historical context in a way that kept me engaged.

That combination of personal history and universal themes, like resistance to discrimination, can really resonate with viewers, inspiring reflection on their own relationships with family and their heritage. I'm especially moved by how the poetry in the film and moments of family gatherings left you feeling thankful and wanting to cherish time with your elders more. It seems like it sparked a deeper sense of gratitude and connection.

I think the film's portrayal of history and personal resilience made me reflect on my own family's history. I'd like future generations can see the documentary film as this one.

    A beautiful message

An incredibly touching story of a man that has lived many lives. It is very informative of the immigrant journey, and so specific to the struggle and to the perseverance of Soviet Jews. It was heartbreaking to hear about growing up too fast during the war and what happened to his family, but it was also so inspiring to learn how they survived.

All of the poetry and archival footage really helped me grasp what that specific time in the Soviet Union felt like.

I really loved getting to spend time taking walks on Brighton Beach with someone who believes that "everything will be good." Very recommended!

    Gorgeous, gentle, loving film

Such a beautiful homage to the filmmaker's grandfather. Images of his daily life interspersed with personal history and resistance to discrimination. You can feel the love and honor that the director has towards his subject. I loved the parts where they showed Gregory excercising on the beach and walking through the woods, the poetry throughout the film commenting on the passage of time., and the little moments of family getting together to celebrate. It made me want to spend more time with my elders to learn and document their stories.. I left the screening feeling thankful to have witnessed.

Moved me more than I thought

I approached this documentary with no expectations, but by the end, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Grigoriy's life on Brighton Beach was profoundly moving. His commitment to daily workouts well into his late 80s, his routine of riding his bike, socializing with friends on the beach, and hosting family visits most evenings painted a picture of a life rich in connection and purpose. Truly, a life well-lived.

For me, the biggest takeaway from this film is the importance of staying active, maintaining meaningful relationships, and prioritizing health as we age. It's a beautiful reminder of what makes a fulfilling life.

    Wonderful Documentary

I was born in Russia but grew up here and did not know a lot about the history. Usually I do not like documentaries but this movie gave me a glimpse of Russia and into the past of the country I was born in. Through Gregorys eyes I saw the struggles of children during war times. I experienced the pain of loss and the joy and excitement of victory. I better understand what it was like to be jewish in the Soviet Union. I saw the pressure people experienced under Stalin and that pressure was intensified for the Jewish people. Besides all of the serious moments, there was also lightheartedness and laughter. It was very engaging and I would highly recommend it.
