Fake Reality
Why not just make it a real reality show? Why hire actors to pretend? It only took ten minutes to be totally annoyed by the bad acting and unrealistic scripts. It would have been a cool concept if they had actually done it. Reality TV has been scripted before, and it didn't look this fake. I'd really like to see this show for real.
Rough watch.
This is really bad. Seems like a student film project with zero dollar budget. Also a poor man's fear factor. Im confused on why this was made. I was really looking forward to this show but through the first 2 episodes it's been extremely cringy. I cant tell the vibe they are going for? Ill maybe give it 1 more episode.
Lost it due to solipsistic view....
There's a reason Greg Nicotero has always been BEHIND the camera. He does excellent work OFF SCREEN. I don't think Nicotero is geared, nor has the personality, to be an on-screen host. He's not good at it. Perhaps if he took his appearance more seriously that may have helped. A 60 year old balding, long-haired man means one of 2 things -- you are either unhoused/homeless/housing challenged (whatever), or have so much money that you don't care. This series suffers greatly form Nicotero doing EVERYTHING in a very narcissistic manner. It needed another person to tell Greg "that's not good for a competition show, it needs to change".
So, as expected, most of the special effects in this are pretty great - I mean that's what Nicotero is known for. Any work he's done behind the scenes as a producer/director for The Walking Dead I write off. That series, and all its spinoffs, haven't been good for a decade (its truly a zombie show).
As a "competition" show this is really lacking any drive to discover what's next. By episode 4 it's become more about the effects than the actual "game show". I don't really care, nor am I interested in, these "contestants". They either come across as just plain weird, or they are plants that can't act very well. Some of the phrasing the "contestants" use in the "interviews" just sound scripted... real people in real settings just don't use the same vocabulary on display here. The contestants seem disingenuous at every turn.
So, one could easily just skip this series. It's not vey engaging or compelling.
But if you want to see some decent special effects in a more "realistic" (or pseudo realistic) setting, they can be interesting. But none of the people on screen are really likable or engaging.

Was hoping for an actual horror competiton show
Thought this was gonna be a fun horror reality competition kinda like Scare Tactics (but actually good) but its clear in the first ep that half (or all?) of the competitors are actors. I guess if they hired good actors they'd be too recognizable so we have amateur hour and the stereotypical reality show characters they're trying to portray as real people just do not land. This makes the whole thing come off as totally fake and too hard to tell what is a setup vs real. I wouldn't care so much if it wasn't supposed to be a competition, but it's just sooooo cheesy with the fake scared reactions and clearly staged scenarios. PASS.
Exactly what I was expecting!
I love found footage and fake reality TV. I love guts and gore. This show is everything I was hoping it would be.
I'll be honest at first I thought it was going to be areal tv show but I'm actually really glad it's not. It's such an easy watch!
It's fun, it's fake, it's gore, and I wish I were in it!
