Waited a long time before watching this. Then I gave it a go, and at about 1.5 hour before the end I lost all interest. I gave this a 4, as a movie on it's on. But as a sequel this is a 0.
The movie feels like a series made into a movie, with actors who some elevated the material while others holding it back. Like (real actors from movies working with actors who are used to working on series)
Actors like Ewan McGregor did a good job. Always fun to see Carel Struycken from twin peaks. Carl Lumbly was the best of the cast as I bought him as Dick Hallorann straight away.
Every time the movie references the shining, you really see how far the apple has fallen compared to what Stanley Kubrick had done. They had some scenes with the hag at the start that worked.. but she is made mundane by the end.
The movie lack any sense of horror etc, I'll give them props for not having many jump scares. But still feels like a movie made for teenagers.
If you are a fan of the original, this is a pass.
But!
If you like superhero movies, where there is little depth and a high fantasy level you might like this. Other than that this felt like bad fan fiction.
