  • A must watch !

The movie is slow and takes sometime for it to get to its main story - but this time was for character development, setting and premise & environment.

But once this is done (around 25 - 30 mins in) - the movie really pickup and the acting ! Wow there is very little dialogues for both the leads - but they speak with their eyes and body language !

This is brilliantly made - only this stopping me from giving a 10 star is : -

1: the BGM and sound design is tad over at times 2: may be give some flashback or elaborate the 'other relationship' better to make it more real and makes us connect and understand more

Verdict - A must watch for all who are into serious movies.

  • Barely watchable due to some good performances

The premise, the setting, characters and cinematography and script (atleast for the most part) was pretty good - realistic and rustic.

But the main problem was the pacing and editing and a very weak and almost illogical climax.

It is sad as the characters and acting were really good and deserved a better treatment.

Verdict - Watchable - but you might fast forward quite a lot and does not warrant a repeat watch.

  • Started kind of ok, but fizzled out mid way and by ending became ridiculous !

The movie started kind of ok - characters were well established and screenplay and dialogues were organic

But once the setting and premise were set - the writers and directors and even the actors were lost in the middle part - I mean they were unsure on what direction to take the film and there are some totally illogical sequences and timeline is totally ridiculous ( for example there instances of time frame like 2 days, 3 days in many parts in the second half - but the story proceeds like weeks ! )

By the ending it was just a mess and climax was just flat out ridiculous ( not believable, logical or realistic at all)

  • Horrible !

This movie was torture ! Utter Torture !

Stale writing, very bad, illogical and pretty ridiculous screenplay and below average acting !

The basic thread is not unique or new - but have potential - there is multiple movies around surrogacy, complexities around it and few romcoms around it as well - but this is a perfect example of HOW NOT TO make a more around one !

  • A breezy film with great acting

The real highlight of this movie is the acting and cinematography by the leads - the story is very light and quite honestly done many times over and without much complexity or twists - but extremely realistic and earnest.

Roshan, Shihab and Nandhu ( though in a supporting capacity) really have shown their real matte - director has a good job in the creative decisions he took ( showing rather than telling, editing largely good - the movie flows slowly, but gracefully)

    Verdict - worth a watch.

  • Something as layer and complex as "Guru"

This was a treat to watch for me - anyone into serious movies would appreciate this - but sadly the messaging and star-studded cast probably gave this serious movie a very lopsided expectation / audience perception (just like what happened with the classic Mohanlal film - "Guru")

The movie is talking a lot of metaphors, about how power controls and corrupts - how even judiciary at times act like feudal structures. There is quite a lot of layers on the movie - there are even parallels in the movie about how Judge in first half seem to deliver justice and help those in need - but when power / politics come even the witnesses and judge change their allegiance!

Even the oath changes from simply "pledging on God" to "pledging on God and King", lack of Mahatma Gandhi statue at the second half (once King comes) - Names of everyone who commits atrocities containing a "Veer" in their name from King, to Advocates, to the Policeman in question to even Judge !

Verdict - Not for everyone - but those into serious movies would highly enjoy this !

  • Unsure of itself !

This look like a corporate micromanagement and focus group created monstrosity! Because the movie switches from horror, to comedy, to dark comedy, to thriller, to political correctness, to love, to drama, to mindless action - sometime as in same scene / sequence!

Basically too many cooks and advisors / revisions have made this into a concoction that is very difficult to digest - let alone enjoy.

  • Melodramic version of English movie Frequency (2000)

The thread is not really all that new - any one who is into Scifi movies / series or shows knows this is a very commonly used plot (Time Travel, communication across timelines, butterfly effect or changes on timeline due to the impact from the future and vice versa )

There are many Frequency, Back to the Future triology, Butterfly Effect Set of Movies, Kate and Leopold etc. Etc.

This movie is very close to 2000 movie Frequency ( which is a movie of a boy talking to his Father in past through a old Ham radio and how it changes the future)

The movie though is different and time operates as non-linear and multiple timeline structure here that changes create alternate timelines - only the physical house itself could be changed by the past.

  • Hollow !

The intension and basic thread are well meaning and the story and ending is supposed to be uplifting and positive - but sadly the screenplay and writing made it a snoozefest and a lacklustre and halfbaked ending made it a very unsatisfying movie.

The acting and environment setting was good - character felt real and relatable - but sadly the story flow was pretty messy and even at the end we dont really relate much with the lead.

The main problem is that though the thread around vitiligo, prejudice around it, the lead overcoming his own insecurities all are well - but the field the lead choose - he does very little 'work' on them - no workshop, no research, no learning - nothing at all!

  • A bit preachy - but worth a watch

This is like a Tamil version of the Shah Rukh Khan's Swades movie - The basic theme is nostalgia, going to your roots - both are slow burners - while this goes a bit too bonkers at many places while Swades is extremely realistic (boringly at times) - this a bit too hyperbolic that almost seems illogical in an otherwise highly realistic story !

All in all - had the editing been a bit more critical (like few scenes seem repetitive and drags while few are un-necessarily hurried) and may be tone down the mass elements a bit perhaps - this could have been a great movie - but as it stands it is still pretty good - definitely worth a watch.

  • A mishmash

This movie was a colossal waste of potential - it has some pretty decent acting, decent enough story and premise and pretty good cinematography and camera work. Sound design and BGM were pretty good for most part.

But the failure of the movie is sort of an identity crisis - Movie is part spoof, part triller and part emotional drama : but commits to any of the three aspects and max a mess out of it as a rest.

You cannot mix spoof and serious thriller - the minute you do - as an audience you try to apply logic to spoof part and the story structure and character development all falls apart completely!

  • Not worth your time!

The premise is not new - but pretty universal - marital struggles, misunderstandings, reconciliation and realizations have been sold for ages - across era, across cultures, across geographies, languages etc.

But a good story requires some salient elements - which unfortunately this movie failed rather horribly !

    1. Story development and pacing : non-linear story telling as followed in the movie works well when it does not disrupt the organic flow (story flow is similar to the movie "Alai Payuthey" - but done very sloppily here)

    2. Character development and sequences - we see very little from both perspectives and see very little about each main character's interests, individuality, concerns, fears, strength etc. So each action happens almost sudden rather than organically and many things you are left confused as to "why they are doing, what they are doing"

    3. Acting - a good rom com needs stellar acting ability, especially grasping of microexpressions - since most of tight close up shots and you have to emote the thought process of the characters and give life to them - The guy was over and the leading actress was just plain horrible - she cannot emote at all !

  • Well-acted and interesting premise, but need better execution

The story and premise were really interesting, but screenplay and writing needs lot of work - characters through well-acted, need a bit more layer and depth - especially the mother of that guy.

Also, the flashblacks and the reveal happens very late - and the pre-climax appear rushed, and climax was pretty ok though (predictable, but good none the less)

  • Worth a watch !

This was a pretty interesting movie! This is a second part or sort of like a loose sequel - but you dont have to watch the first one to understand or enjoy this, but if you do, you would appreaciate / understand it a little better.

The theme and acting - especially by the girls were really good, though those of the teachers and principal were pretty bad and very off putting.

Logically the movie could have been better, especially the middle bit and extended climax (very vague and pretty illogical) - but that aside, the movie is still an interesting watch.

  • Very poor ! Surprised at the high rating

I somehow finished watching - it was quite literally a torture - cliche galore, very poor sound design and irritating and too loud BGM, very average acting and clueless direction.

Only interesting part were some of the cinematography - which were pretty decent - especially in the beginning - but that too got sloppy towards the end.

Verdict: Avoid like the plague !

  • Sloppy !

The basic recipe for a good thriller is

    • Story and Writing
    • Character development / depth - with layers
    • Logical sequences and breadcrumbs or foreshadowing of twists (that is when a twist reveals, it should retrofit the sequences explained so far)
    • Sound Design and BGM
    • Pacing and Editing
    • Cinematography and color grading

In this apart from the last point (visual design of the movie) - everything else fails totally - especially the writing and script - which is un-necessarily convoluted and illogical and does not refit the previous scenes / sequences.

Verdict - Not worth your time !

  • Theme and premise was interesting - but GV Prakash made it horrible with his acting

Concept of multiverse and timetravel was interesting and largely logical - though made a bit too confusing and not very well explained that all may not understand.

But the real weak points are the terrible acting and writing (too many unwanted and irrelevant scenes and far too many examples to highlight the difference of alternate or parallel world - that became tiresome and finally irritating )

Climax was weak and lacks depth and resolution as well.

Had this been dealt with by some better writer / directors and acted by someone better than GV Prakash - this could have been good - may be even a great film - but as it stands - it is rather torturous to watch.

  • Light-hearted, simple, elegant

This was a good, clean, lovely - family movie!

It is not a masterpiece by any stretch of imagination, has few logical flaws - but it is highly enjoyable to watch. All the lead characters are well etched out, relatable and realistic! But supporting characters (apart from the male nurse) looks either under-developed or a bit cartoonish or caricatures.

Had the pacing been a bit better around the middle and some of the illogical scenes in the pre-climax (which isn't needed in the story - injected just for 'mass' appeal and looks force fit )

  • Not worth your time !

This was a colossal waste of time!

I mean there is no logic, sequences and scenes are all over the place, writing is choppy and disconnected and script filled with cliches.

The basic thread of the love story was interesting - but stretched un-necessarily and the gangster angle was very messily treated!

I felt the romance angle made with a bit of logic and care would have been a watchable flick - as it stands it is laughingly bad !

  • Could have been better - but still watchable

The premise was good, acting and character development were excellent (especially that child actor and Deepak )

Score and Screenplay were pretty good as well.

The weak part ( something which stopped this from being a good or even a great movie) were the writing and direction. Till the half way it was realistic, logical and well paced.

But from meeting the boy and the guy it became extremely weak and illogical ! ( I mean police not even checking the boy after a pretty good accident, not one person seeing how the boy and guy are stuck together. And the ending and transition of the family with the guy and seems rushed and thus not entirely convincing / believable!

  • Not as bad the rating and comments suggests - makes for an interesting watch !

I gave it a miss at the theatres this Onam - opted for Lokah as this year's Onam movie at theatre and I believe my choice was right.

But that being said, this is a interesting movie - that has some different theme, a stylized approach (something like Wes Andersen - which is vivid, wide angles, strange and hyper characters)

Movie is trip - I appreciated the dealing of mental health and takes of the movie does with it - but I felt the run time and writing could have been more focused - this style becomes stale if scenes are repeated or if the flow becomes slow (which the movie does in the second half)

This is not a must watch and many might not love it (or even like it) - but does make it an interesting watch (especially the first half and may be towards the end )

  • Horribly made

The basic thread was interesting - but screenplay, script, directing and especially editing was just really poor. Editing and screenplay really made it close to impossible to enjoy (many sequences are out of place and some ridiculous - even considering it as a comedy!)

Acting was mixed and Ajay and Mrunal were pretty ok, and some scenes are pretty good - but some of the supporting cast and the film making was so poor - their skill just got lost the abyss of inadequacy.

  • Pretty decent if viewed as a drama / comedy instead of Horror

This is a pretty decent comedy / drama movie, with pretty good acting, good story and screenplay and some pretty realistic and fleshed out characters.

The horror element (apart from probably towards the end) is pretty below average and this for sure in not a horror movie !

The period touch is pretty consistent (from costumes, posters, artwork, references, songs etc. But not sure what is relevance - I mean the story could well and truly be made into present time as well )

  • Mindless Masala Action Flick - with subpar acting

Apart from the acting by Biju Menon and SK - there is nothing much at all in the flashy action flick !

No story, leave logic- no proper scene continuation, 2- Dimensional characters, some very laughingly clumsy acting (the lead actress and villains are just horrible caricatures )

Now these along might still been an one time watchable film - but the cheesy dialogues and cinematography and lack of depth in writing ( this is even shallower than the Bollywood Bomb - Action Jackson !) - makes this an atrocious film to watch !

  • Could have been better if trimmed down and less political

The story is charming, backed by brilliant acting from the veteran actors (Rohini and Renji Panikar) - with some pretty decent supporting acting as well.

But I have two major problems which greatly reduced my movie experience.

    1. The political posturing (the whole Pakistan angle have nothing much to do with basic story thread and take that out - the story, the start and end all remains the same - it does not even add any added drama and looks force fit) Had this been an organic element which added any layer or changed the narration or story of ending this would have been fine - but it is not so !

    2. There are lot of filler scenes and story drags at many portions (especially in the middle part - The famous singer sequence is dragged un-necessarily for example) - a good 20 - 25 mins could be cut (may be explore the couple's history perhaps - we see very little of their early life - not even that many recollections or narrations)
