What can I say; Cregger has cemented himself as a director worth watching, carving out his own weirdly brilliant corner of horror. You can feel echoes of Barbarian here, but this one feels sharper, maybe even a little more grown-up... though I say that with a grin, because the film is packed with silliness too. He has this knack for smuggling bits of himself into his work, little reflections of human nature, our flaws, our messy instincts, only this time it's all dressed up in the supernatural.
Sure, there are a few jump scares sprinkled in, the kind that feel so deliberately bad they're basically punchlines. But then the finale hits... absolute chaos in the best way. I laughed, I choked, I nearly spilled my drink. It's horror, it's comedy, it's a juggling act that somehow doesn't drop a ball.

What can I really say... Years later, I still find myself rewatching this and catching some new detail I missed the first time, a glance, a remark, even the smallest movement in the background. It's up there with the best of Denis's & Rogers work (and that's saying something, because I love everything they make)
I think it's because this film is exactly what it presents itself to be: a wolf in sheep's clothing. Once you strip away the surface, you see just how much precision and intent went into every single element. It rewards you when you notice something hidden in plain sight, and you feel that satisfaction each time it clicks.
Denis did this with Arrival too, crafting films that aren't needlessly complex like a Nolan puzzle, but instead demand your attention in a different way. You're either watching, or you're missing the entire point.

It's taken me a few years to actually write a review, but that alone shows the masterclass of this mini-series, because to this day, it still resonates with me.
As my title states, I believe if Denis created a TV series of Sicario, this would be the closest to it. And I don't just mean in terms of context, the pacing, soundtrack, and artistic touch that only Fasoli could add are all here.
I love Gomorrah, but this felt different, almost like a showcase of European cinema and television.
There are only a few shows I would happily rewatch (time is the enemy), and this is one of them.
