I didn't love this movie It was ok, just not great. It was a typical revenge film (coupla bandits kill a woman during a robbery and her fiancé vows to avenge her death) within a western motif. And the narration that is sung between a few scenes was comically cheesy.
But there's a line in it that just blew me away.
When Marlene Dietrich's Altar Keane (who is sort of in a relationship) is starting to have feelings for Arthur Kennedy's Vern Haskell (he's the one out for revenge) she says to him: "I'd wish you go away... and come back ten years ago."
Wow! What an incredible line! Such a shame it's buried inside such an unmemorable film.
If you've ever been in that spot, committed to someone when you meet someone else who seems perfect for you, you can understand that emotion. That "Why now???" cry for help.
Lest anyone read into this, I am speaking from experience but many, many years ago in a previous relationship. I was torn and twisted by confusion and while I didn't verbalize it as eloquently as Dietrich's character, I remember having a very similar feeling.
That's why art, any art, is so essential to our human existence. It can connect us with emotions that become normal in their communality. It can remind us that we are not alone in our feelings. Others have been here before and they have survived to tell about it.
I know that's a lot to take away from a silly little western film but those were my thoughts so I figured I'd share them.

Watched this on my flight this morning. I thought it was really good. Very graphic at times so avoid if you have a weak stomach for blood and gore. But if you can handle it, I'd recommend it. Like in the original movie, your hearts breaks for the creature. He didn't ask to be created and now he's stuck here on earth, viewed by most as a monster. The cast is really good, especially Mia Goth who I got turned on to (literally) in Pearl and X. There's something smolderingly sexy about her and she shines when she's on the screen. Plus Christopher Waltz is always amazing.
I gave this 7 stars (which Is a Netflix 9). Really enjoyed it.

Gross. Exploitive. Cruel. And not only that, a boring and predictable story line. Not sure what others saw in this film with its 7.8 rating for me it was horrible. Only good thing is it's only an hour long so it only lasted one workout instead of two
