Donna has been nominated for 5 Tony Awards, all in the category Lead Actress in a Musical: 1994, "Passion"; 1996, "The King and I"; 2004, "Wonderful Town"; 2007, "LoveMusik"; and 2011 "The People in the Picture". Donna won twice, in 1994 and 1996.

Donna and fellow Tony winner Michael Cerveris were Tony nominees for playing Tony winners in the 2007 musical "LoveMusik". Michael portrayed Kurt Weill (Best Score for "Street Scene", 1947) and Donna portrayed Weill's wife, Lotte Lenya (Featured Actress in a Musical for "Threepenny Opera", 1956).
