Was hired by legendary writer William J. Bell directly after the cancellation of Generations (1989), in January 1991, for a four episode run on The Young and the Restless (1973). By the time he completed the second episode, he was signed to a contract by the show and he has played the character of Neil Winters ever since.

His father, Christopher St. John, portrayed revolutionary Ben Buford in Las noches rojas de Harlem (1971).

Has three children: Julian, Paris, and Lola.

His son, Julian St. John, died by suicide in 2014.
