Found out on the Genealogy show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr that her paternal grandfather's brother was murdered in Iran and when her grandfather found out about it he went to Teheran to exact "blood money" and when he got to Teheran he was given a title given to clerics in order to appease him.

Born in Ealing, London, England, to Patricia Anne (Hill) and Mohammad Taghi Amanpour. Her father was from a wealthy Persian family, and was born in Tehran. Her English mother was born in Paris, France, to English parents. Her parents met when her mother traveled to Iran.

Was an accomplished equestrian who competed as a child jockey.

Amanpour was permitted to interview the extremist Russian politician, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, for 60 Minutes after he specifically said he would not be interviewed by an American correspondent from the show.

She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.

At 11, she was sent from Iran to a Catholic girl's boarding school in England.

Discovered on Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (2012) that her great-great-great-great-grandfather was Mirza Mohammad Taghi, who was Governor of the Province of Isfahan in the 1840s.

She was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honors List for her services to journalism.

Fluent in Farsi and most of the time speaks Farsi in Iran.

Her son was named Darius John: John after her and her now ex-husband's very good friend John Kennedy Jr..

Is constantly refered to in Las chicas Gilmore (2000) as the character Rory's (Alexis Bledel) big role model.
