Maurice M. McCallum is a Jamaican-born writer and actor whose journey in the performing arts began on the modest stages of church plays. Raised in Jamaica, Maurice developed a deep love for storytelling early on, but with limited opportunities in the local industry, he initially struggled to see a viable future in acting. Undeterred, he remained committed to his craft, performing in school productions, church plays, and voicing radio commercials.
In 2002, Maurice discovered a new passion-writing. What began as experimentation quickly evolved into a lifelong pursuit. Facing rejection from major advertising agencies due to a lack of experience and portfolio, Maurice took the initiative to build his own body of work. His efforts eventually led him to brief stints at M Squared Studios and another advertising agency, where he honed his skills writing for radio, TV, and print. Despite setbacks and professional challenges, he remained steadfast, continuously developing his voice and storytelling craft.
Beyond the corporate space, Maurice collaborated with industry professionals such as Kevin Jackson and Robin Chin, steadily gaining recognition in creative circles. His talent caught the attention of Jamaican-born U.S. actress Jacinth Headlam, who saw the depth in his storytelling and brought him on board as her lead writer for several upcoming projects.
In September 2023, Maurice published his debut novel, Return of the Owl, which received positive reviews on Amazon. By 2025, his growing writing portfolio culminated in the release of Love After Holidays, a feature tied to Jamaica's Reggae Month and premiered at Kingston's iconic Carib 5 theatre. The film is also set to air on BET and BET+ in December 2025-marking a major milestone in Maurice's career as a screenwriter.
On January 27, 2025, Maurice was tapped to pen the script for a crime/drama faith-based film entitled Redeemed, based on a true story from Pastor Otis Manning. The film, shot in Jamaica by Director Luc Stephens, is slated for release in 2026.
With a voice rooted in perseverance and passion, Maurice McCallum continues to craft stories that inspire, challenge, and uplift.
