On February 22, 2006, he died suddenly during a piano concert aboard a Caribbean cruise ship as it sailed the Atlantic Ocean. His performance was part of the Bill Gaither Homecoming concert. According to the official medical examiner's report his heart simply burst. He died doing what he loved most, playing the piano.
