He was raised in a Modern Orthodox Jewish family.

His parents are Laurelle Mellet (a stay at home mom/homemaker) and Shaun Mellet (a Real Estate agent).

Due in large part to his huge YouTube and other social media presence, Time Magazine (USA) named him as one of the "25 Most Influential Teens of 2014.".

In 2018, with his partner/boyfriend Jacob Bixenman, he became a dog owner of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Nash.
