Oliver Wong(III)

Oliver Wong is a Taiwanese screenwriter, director, actor, and stand-up comedian. With the given name of Chia-Yao Wang, Oliver Wong is born and raised in Taiwan on March 4th, 1992. He majored in Radio and Television at National Chengchi University in Taiwan, where he explored and discovered his artistic voice by directing and writing short films. During the final year of his college, he directed, wrote, and edited his thesis film, 100 Apples. A telling of a high schooler struggling to accept his homosexuality, 100 Apples gained international recognition in numerous film festivals such as the 37th Taiwan Golden Harvest Film Festival, the 24th Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, the 7th Shanghai Pride Film Festival, the 18th Kyoto International Student Film and Video Festival, Germany Hamburg International Queer Film Festival, and won the first prize of the 1st Taiwan Queer Film Festival. Shortly after the college graduation, he flew to Los Angeles in 2015 to pursue his master's degree in Screenwriting from Chapman University. When he first started his graduate program, he barely spoke English. To better his English speaking and writing skill, he listened to Americans talking on TV shows and reading scripts as a development intern in three Hollywood film production companies. In 2018 summer, Oliver started to perform stand-up open-mic in LA comedy clubs. The second time he performed stand-up was at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank, which immediately booked him for another show. Oliver continues crafting his comedy writing and performance skill. Flappers Comedy Club, Haha Cafe, and The Second City are some of the places he frequents. He often draws comedy inspiration from his lost-in-translation situations, Asian-American experiences, and American gay culture.
