This is a fun film. As others have said, it's part grindhouse & part kung-fu. You will see nods to The Big Boss, Enter the Dragon, Old Boy & others. Mitsutake & Imai are creative with the camera. CGI effects are not bad, and most of the actors are capable. There are some scripted surprises & some shocking kills. There is plenty of cinematic humor here, but no nyuk-nyuk dialogue jokes.
If not for the abundant use of slow-mo, this movie could've clocked in at around 45 mins. The sound effects were fine, but the reliance on cheap, overly-orchestrated soundtrack music detracted from the experience - but that's a common problem in low-budget films. I was disappointed in Katarina Severen's featured role. She showcased her wrestling-ring skills plenty, but her theatre skills were lacking. Same goes for Tomm Voss. Both were simple caricatures & could've been stronger in their villain roles. Sadly, the shallow script did not help them any.
California is always a poor substitute for Texas, but the compound set in the finale was suitable. Contrary to a previous reviewer, there is no "sociological insight" here, and there is no adolescent Trump-bashing. This film is a very straightforward hostage plot ala Taken, but much simpler.
I would take this film over a thousand similarly low-budget "horror" films, the kind seemingly cranked out by any kid with a Black Magic camera these days. Mitsutake needs a better screenwriter, but at least he knows how to tell an entertaining story. I look forward to seeing his other projects.

I heard about this movie from a friend and liked the concept and I must say it was satisfying. It's about Karate Kill(No Idea the main characters real name) who is out to save his sister.
He encounters challenges and conflicts along the way, which he is up against, to find and save his sister. The movie is not cliched at all.
I must say it is an action extravaganza with some very good martial arts fights. Many of the fights are innovative and over the top, yet well choreographed scenes, which I have never seen in films before. Just innovative stuff that deserves more eyeballs.
This is at least worth a view to see its unique approach and action fights. It's a bit of a Grindhouse, and it is missing some fun I feel. At times it feels a bit dry and lacks humor. The humor would add to the over the tops scenes. I compare this to Kung Fury/Hobo With a Shotgun/Turbo Kid, without the cheesy lines(CHEESY SCENES AND LINES MAKE THOSE MOVIES FUN). With a higher budget, this could have been more awesome and fun. It's had potential to be a lasting cult hit, but the lack of humor will probably limit that.
It is still a must see for being unique. I gave it an 8 out of 10, but it's worth a look at for action enthusiasts, kung fu fans, and lovers of unique small budget films. See it any way you can and I think it something guys will love showing their friends.

Saw this movie at Texas Frightmare Fest in Dallas. No spoilers, but I really enjoyed the movie. I had no idea what to expect or what the plot of the movie was. Well casted and very action packed. Lots of beautiful Asian actresses , which was nice, and tons of excitement. You will not be bored with this one. Will for sure want to add this title to my DVD collection.
There were more T's & A's than there were roundhouse kicks, which gave it more of a Russ Meyer's/Grindhouse feel throughout most of the movie. The fight scenes were the most redeeming factor in this film which i gave 4 stars, otherwise a 3 star would be more deserving. This film lacked continuity and a few of the actors portrayed their characters with such a cheesy lackluster performance. My guess is the cast was a mix of professional and amateur actors. Although the fight action was good, there were some noticeable repetitions that made me yawn at a few stunts. David Sakurai is a talented Karate fighter and I would like to see him in higher quality action films. Had this movie been given better supporting actors and a sensible script, I think David would have carried this movie to at least a 7 star rating or better.
Total waste of time, it is a real mess. Mix of genre in awful way. It try to be a grind house, shanghai modern martial art, western ! thriller ! cult movie and so many things and combination is not good. do not waste your time on this movie. Some of martial art scenes are decent. Filming is a real mess, so many camera movement with no purpose and make the scene bad. We can not expect story line for such movie (many bugs in story line) but at least i must admit the music is amazing. The main cult leader actor was amazing, the main character was so so. i think when you are trying to be Quentin Tarantino but you are worse than Robert Rodriguez this crap happen.
