Hanayome nikki

In a small neighborhood filled with nosy, quarreling people, Kyôji Sugi and Haruyo Ichikawa and newlywed lovebirds, annoying those nearby with their loud endearments. But when Miss Ichikawa's old friend, Reiko Hoshi, comes visiting, she tells Miss Hoshi her husband is her brother; they are the last of their classmates to agree to never marry. Miss Hoshi recognizes the deception and proceeds to vamp Sugi.

Nikkatsu's first sound film is a musical, with Sugi singing "Dinah", and a bandleader introducing an original song and mentioning it is from this movie. Over all, it is a charming trifle, relying on sound as its primary selling point; silents were longer-lasting in Japan than in the west. This was due in part to the simple expense of the process, and in part because silent pictures relied on benshis, narrators; it is claimed that some were well enough known to be able to draw audiences on their own.
