Dark Sunrise

When a young female police officer is found is killed in a bomb attack on the Commissioner's home, the body found with Kim Basinger is thought tp be Rock Hudson.

For a bit Rock Hudson decides to stay dead, but he puts his trust in the wrong person abd it nearly costs him.

The reason for the murders is kind of grafted into the plot. Literally comes from nowhere.

Hudson keeps John Schuck and Richard Gilliland at arm's length and restead uses an eager Sergeant played by Karen Valentine.

Not one of the better episodes..

Kim Basinger is a college student who's staying at Mac's apartment but it's not for what you might think. A bomb explodes there killing her and someone else as the commissioner was actually out fishing at the time. So while his memorial is held he takes a female sergeant (Karen Valentine) and makes her swear to secrecy while he tries to find out if he was indeed the intended victim. Being the second in the now-shortened series title "McMillan", this one once again address the fact he's now widowed but other than that, it's still a fun time during most of it. And Martha Raye seems a suitable enough replacement for Nancy Walker who at this point was starring in her own series with her name in the title though that would be short-lived as would another show later that particular season she did called "Blansky's Beauties". She'd eventually return to "Rhoda" the following year. Anyway, "Dark Sunrise" was an enjoyable ep of "McMillan".
