Beliefs and religion, plus one hell of a breakfast
This is a good episode with themes around religious culture and the nature of belief coming through in a fairly unsubtle way. However, I personally find the humour has grown on me with rewatches over the years.
There is a sequence of banter I particularly like about halfway through, where Lister and Rimmer discuss various beliefs and the content of Lister's breakfast order at the machine never fails to make me laugh.
As a means of looking more into the characters of Lister, Rimmer and Cat, it is quite good, but for me, there are no interesting sci-fi concepts nor big laughs. It is a generally amusing philosophical episode.
The performances of all are as strong as ever.
Waiting for God
Red Dwarf - Season 1, Episode 4: "Waiting for God" - 7/10 Review
Meanwhile, Rimmer misinterprets what he believes to be an alien message, once again showcasing his delusions of grandeur. His subplot is classic Rimmer-self-important, obsessive, and ultimately embarrassing-resulting in one of the best punchlines of the episode.
While the concept is strong and the satire sharp, the pacing is a little uneven, and the episode doesn't quite reach the comedic highs of others in the season. That said, "Waiting for God" is still an enjoyable watch, with great moments of character development and an amusing expansion of Red Dwarf's universe.

¿Sabías que...?
- CuriosidadesWhen Lister enters the observation room, Rimmer says that Lister might get a squiggly slimy thing stuck to his face. That is a obvious nod to Alien, el octavo pasajero (1979), where Kane has a facehugger attached to his face.
- PifiasWhen the capsule is brought on board, the top of it is covered with dust. While there may be some intergalactic dust in space that would coat the capsule, there wouldn't be any "top" for it to accumulate on. Rather, it should have received a very light "dusting" over its whole surface, if at all.

[last lines]
Rimmer: Incredible. A stupendous moment in my personal history. The perfectly preserved remains of a Quagaar warrior.
Lister: Yeah, right, Rimmer. Absolutely.
Rimmer: They must have looked something like... a roast chicken.
[end credits begin to roll, then freeze after a few seconds]
Rimmer: [voice over] It's a garbage pod!
[credits resume, and freeze again after a few seconds]
Rimmer: [voice over] IT'S A SMEGGING GARBAGE POD!
- Créditos adicionalesThe end credits are interrupted a number of times to have Rimmer complain that the pod they found was just a garbage pod.
