Guru-Guru Gokil

I hadn't even heard about the 2020 movie titled "Crazy Awesome Teachers" (aka "Guru-Guru Gokil") before now in 2021 as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch it. I briefly checked up on the movie before sitting down to watch it, and it seemed like it was a movie that could prove entertaining.

And I will say that if you enjoy a movie that is equal parts drama, comedy and crime, then "Crazy Awesome Teachers" is a movie that you should give a chance. I must admit that I actually enjoyed the movie.

Sure, the storyline was pretty generic, but at the same time, it actually worked out well enough, because it was nicely written and had a good amount of comedy to it that definitely helped spruce it up.

Now, I am not overly familiar with the Indonesian cinema, so there weren't anyone familiar here in the movie. But I will say that they actually performed quite nicely and brought their individual characters to life on the screen in a good way.

"Crazy Awesome Teachers" is a feel-good movie, and it is one that I definitely will recommend you taking the time to watch, if you want a light comedy with a good story.

The film is not bad, typical of Indonesian comedy films. Focusing on the problem of the main character of this film tells how he continues his job, but he is forced to return to his hometown and work as a substitute teacher. This film contains comedy, drama, a little romance and mystery. Unfortunately, the drama and comedy that is displayed in my opinion is not optimal, the storyline and ending are not quite right, there is cringe comedy at the ending. Apart from all that this film is worth to watch, especially with family. There is a moral message, there is even a little social critic presented in this film.

Guru-Guru Gokil is an Indonesian comedy film offering a fresh and heartwarming viewing experience wrapped in meaningful messages about teachers and the value of education. Directed by Sammaria Simanjuntak, the film stars Gading Marten alongside a lineup of popular local comedy actors.

The movie successfully delivers natural humor, light dialogue, and situations that are very relatable to school life in Indonesia. Each teacher character comes with distinct personalities - from strict to quirky - making the storyline lively and enjoyable to follow.

Gading Marten performs solidly with his unique character, bringing both humor and warmth. The chemistry among the cast flows smoothly, allowing comedic moments to feel genuine and not overly forced.

The film's strength lies in its simple message about teamwork, honesty, and what it means to be an educator. Although certain parts of the story feel predictable, it remains an enjoyable watch, especially with family or friends.

Technically, its cinematography and background score effectively support the comedic and dramatic tones. Guru-Guru Gokil is a feel-good film with light storytelling and meaningful messages, well-deserving of an 8/10 rating.

I don't really watch Indonesian flicks---except for them certain ones that caught my attention. I don't normally check out this kind, and yet somehow, I found this one a tad enticing. And for that, it deserves a credit. I still frown at their cringy choice of using 'gokil' as their movie title but I'm not gonna talk about the lousy title.

The story revolves around a man who's desperate to selfishly make a name for himself. All out of luck and money, he returns to his hometown and moves back in with his Father. He fakes a diploma to fool the faculty at a nearby school in order to fulfil his cruise-ship dream job. Then later he meets an attractive young teacher who kind of 'wakes' him up from reality. Long story short, with his colleagues, he tries to save the school's huge financial debacle.

I should let all know that Crazy Awesome Teachers is just another so-so yet quirky drama comedy which has some violance in its storyline; parental discretion is advised. The movie claims that the lead discovers the joys of teaching but it never shows on screen. The audience never actually see that development occurs and that's violating the first rule of good storytelling: Show, don't tell. Personally, I think it's way below average but I give generous 5 for the lovely shots.

I'm going to start with this : I don't watch Indonesian movies a lot but this one caught my attention. I didn't expect a lot in the first place but this movie deserves quite a rating for entertaining your quarantined days, or for keeping you a company in the afternoon while working at home and sipping your evening coffee with your family, Kind of relaxing your nerves after hearing too much bad news on television. Dian Sastro has proven that she could actually be coming out from her shell - watching this movie will make you forget her as Cinta from AADC, although the makeover could have been more natural. This movie is in fresh and entertaining plot supported with its light jokes, easy to be understood by all levels of age, suitable for family time. Some new talents are trained and shot perfectly by the young actors.
