Extra Innings

I saw this as part of a block of films at the Satisfied Eye International Film Festival and it really was an absolute text book work in terms of what can be achieved with the short form. The incredibly accomplished directing and wonderfully slick and artfully constructed script were supported by note-perfect acting performances that combined into a perfect 8 minutes. A film that is restrained and conveys just enough at each beat, it balances drama, comedy and pathos in equal measure. It's one of those films where you're better off going in knowing as little as possible, but will leaving wanting more. A perfect short.

Director John Gray has done it again with his short film, EXTRA INNINGS! With an all-star cast, phenomenal writing and outstanding direction, Extra Innings is one of the ABSOLUTE BEST films we've seen all year! Without giving away any spoilers, Gray sets the audience up perfectly to "knock us out of the park" (so to speak) with a beautifully heartbreaking ending so many people can related very closely to. If there's a secret recipe for short film structure, John Gray has found it! Its no surprise Extra Innings WON both the Audience Choice Award and the Best Dramatic Short Award at the 2020 Blackbird Film Festival. A well deserved testament to John Gray's vision and direction!
