Terrible! I was excited about this movie after three years living in Vienna, but what a waste of time. Nothing in the movie makes sense. The plot is absurd, super forced, the amount of inconsistencies and illogical situations in the movie is too high, and the quality of the performances and post-production editing is ridiculous. The fake snow edited in before the ball is the pinnacle of how bad the movie is. And as well as being a terrible production, it shows absolutely nothing of a city as beautiful as Vienna. Absolutely embarrassing, and by far one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Some terrible movies are funny of how bad they are, but this one doesn't even get that 😭
The dancing, music, costumes and locations are amazing in this movie which is grander, slightly meaner and sexier than the cosy Hallmark style. I totally identify with the leading lady's situation, trying to have a fresh start and with new interests etc after a traumatic experience. It makes sense that she's not super skinny like the regular dancers who train all the time, and all the clothes look great on her - costume department did a lovely job in both the casual and formal wear.
I also enjoyed the subplot of her adopted or half-brother looking for his wider relatives, but I understand why some viewers think the script could have explained that set up more - is Amy adopted? I'd be quite happy to see a sequel continuing the family research on all sides.

The lead actress is actually not bad, and most performances are fairly decent, but she does not cut a lead feminine romantic figure appearance (too chubby for the role, to be blunt). There are some scenes terribly hokey, and wow, ankle injury disappeared like magic, but it's a decent job done with a bad script. The settings help. A travel show featuring Vienna sightseeing would actually be much more watchable than this.
The relationship with the brother is odd, and the director/script allowed the brother to be undeveloped and didn't explain his purpose except to be used for a typical romance movie stunt blunder ("That wasn't my boyfriend, he's my brother!"... Hey, if you are that chummy with your brother, he's most definitely your boyfriend!!!).
But it was tolerable as Christmas buffoonery goes. The ballroom dance scenes took directorial patience, and you can tell that the terrible acting by the bad girlfriend of the prince was just accepted to get the flick done, and the diversion of the American male nurse random meeting the fellow American in Vienna was another implausible personality...not sure if that scattershot character was necessary since it was the uncle who pulled through with the hokey last second tickets and best dress.
If they ever do a movie with a Megan McCain character, the lead actress here will be a good choice. She just played an overly dramatic 'skinny' version role, so not much rehearsal to get into character required.
You can watch this, but probably skip it unless you need a turkey of a Christmas movie playing to ignore while cooking a turkey in the background.
*Director prank(?): One ballroom dance scene, one of the extras has a male prosthetic attached to his nose... It's only a second, but it's as if it was done so you'd look at later scenes of all the dancers so you'd see that the director actually did some pretty good work getting large groups of dancers fitted into the scenes...but to my eye, I only saw it the one time.
Plot sets up an interesting circumstance that leads to a fun romantic back and forth. Well developed by the lead characters.
Badly written
Badly acted
The only good things its got for it is the classical music and that it is a christmas movie
Most christmas movies(Hallmark, I am looking at you) are corny, they do not have original stories(There are exceptions of course) but they have some charm, they add just a bit of whatever to make them just slightly different, and the acting makes them unique
This has nothing of what makes the Hallmark movies enjoyable(I actually confused this one with the Hallmark one, which is why I saw it)
The writing is abysmal, like if it was written by someone that does not speak english without any proofreading, there are a lot of little details(Like the uncle is his uncle but not hers? I mean, we could think "Step brothers" but it is implied they are not step) and... well, pretty much everything else, just nonsensical lines and actions.
The acting is like watching that 90's cartoon action league... they are stiff, without passion, without any real acting at all, delivering blandly on screen.
It is a trainwreck of an attempt that was really disappointing.
