This one is difficult because on one hand it's a really good story but on the other hand, the main characters are so annoying and unlikeable that it's hard to watch. It's also just too weird that there is such a height difference between the female characters and the male characters. It seems more exaggerated in this one compared to other animes. It's full of the usual anime tropes.
The main character, Yuki is completely ridiculous. She's really a one-dimensional girl who is always sorry, has no ability to assert herself when needed and avoid asserting herself from harmful situations, and she's incredibly naive. She is the tired and overused "naive (to the point of stupid) girl" trope. She's pretty much useless and helpless even in the end which really doesn't make sense when you compare her to the progression of the other characters, namely Zero. Both obtained powers but only one of them seemingly was able to use them effectively.
Zero is Yuki's friend and her partner to maintain order at the school. Yuki cares very much for Zero and does anything he wants while he treats her like absolute garbage. He loves her but you don't see his coldness towards her ever really take a back seat. His personality is just awful and he's so unlikeable. He uses Yuki to satisfy himself while wishing she would look at him the way she does Kaname.
Kaname the pureblood vampire is the most likeable of all the characters. He's really the only character I enjoyed. Yuki loves Kaname and shares a special bond with him. He also loves Yuki, is very kind to her, and gives her special preference. He has grace and is very diplomatic but also confidently cunning.
The rest of the characters are unpleasant, bland, or don't have much to do with moving the story along.
This could be a great one if someone rewrote this story and added a little cohesion it. Perhaps if Yuki was more than a brainless walking blood bank who couldn't fight her way out of a wet paperbag, and if Zero was more than just an extreme avoidant who does more than simply yell "leave me alone" everytime Yuki is present unless he needs a fix which he takes in a weird rapey way then maybe this would be a great one.
Besides the annoying characters, typical anime tropes, and a few plotholes, I did like it and think it's worth a watch. If you watch a lot of anime then the characters may seem less annoying and more typical.

Being a fan of Matsuri Hino's manga of vampire knight, I knew I had to check this anime out. even though the story was changed a lot, I still enjoyed the series, I loved the characters especially Zero, and the art and animation was amazing, it gave out that Gothic sort of feeling. there were times when I laughed and times when I was on the edge of my seat an I especially loved how the chibi was added to this as well and the romance in the anime was not bad either.
Don't listen to people who say it's like the anime version of Twilight because it's nowhere near as bad as that. this anime has more action in it than Twilight and all the characters have emotion unlike Kristin Stewart.

This is a very odd and interesting show that could've been much better. Every other scene is a load of pure nonsensical pretentious bs, but the rest of it is beyond competent. Watching this show is a very frustrating experience because while trying to enjoy the interesting bits it keeps being interrupted by boring repetitive trash. I would recommend this for anime and fantasy fans, but be warned that you'll have to put up with a lot of terrible subplots.
I've been binging anime shows for weeks now and every now and then they have characters that triggers me, annoying characters... but this is the first time the main character is so annoying I can't get myself to watch the whole thing. Yuki is just too much... I keep dozing off fantasizing of ways they could kill her off the show. If Yuki wasn't in this show, I'd probably enjoy it.
I hope to complete this wonderful work in all respects, music, characters, and the sad, mysterious story more than wonderful
