This movie is everything that is wrong with the church! Lol. The cast is great, It's got some of my favorites (Regina, Nicole, Sterling). Regina is really funny in the movie.
Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. Is a satirical comedy starring Regina Hall as Trinitie Childs - the proud first lady of a Southern Baptist megachurch, who together with her husband Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Sterling K. Brown), once served a congregation in the tens of thousands. But after a scandal forces their church to temporarily close, Trinitie and Lee-Curtis must reopen their church and rebuild their congregation to make the biggest comeback that commodified religion has ever seen.
Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. Is a 2022 American comedy film written, directed, and produced by Adamma Ebo, in her feature directorial debut. It is a feature-length adaptation of Ebo's 2018 short film of the same name. It stars Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown, who are also producers on the film alongside Daniel Kaluuya, who produced under his 59% Productions banner, with Jordan Peele serving as executive producer under his Monkeypaw Productions banner.

Saw this back at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
"Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul" is directed by Sisters Adamma Ebo and Adanne Ebo which is the story about in an aftermath of a huge scandal, Trinitie Childs, the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist Mega Church, attempts to help her pastor-husband, Lee-Curtis Childs, rebuild their congregation. The Ebo sisters had previously made a short film also called Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul. This movie relies on religious satire and humor about the church system involved with the black communities. All the performances were great especially Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown sells the entire movie. The presentation of a mockumentary style fits perfectly to the tone and presentation. There are some really good camerawork throughout the entire movie but the decision to keep changing the aspect ratio gets annoying the time and time it goes on. Aspect ratio changes during the movie is alright if they serve a purpose but this movie doesn't have a purpose to keep changing it's aspect ratio.
Many of the jokes and references about religion, church, politics, and such are seemingly big misses and it didn't land well with the story as much. The story is unfortunately the most bland and basic story that a satire could choose and because of the bland narrative, it doesn't really feel like a satire but more of a bland comedy. I am not religious but I think maybe if I was religious, I probably would like the movie more. None of the characters are as engaging as I hoped for. Everyone felt like paper cuts from a basic book you find in high school that is hidden away from the public.
The Ebo Sisters definitely have talent but honestly, I prefer the short film version they did.

This movie was good. Period. Anyone on here bashing it is doing just that. This is like if Greenleaf was a documentary vs a show. You get glimpses into the hypocrisy of this mega church and it's disgraced first family...ala Bishop Eddie Long....hmph. Whoever wrote the script is VERY familiar with prosperity gospel and it shows. Lots of funny moments. Some "Y'all, be for real" moments lol. And some "Oop, that's the true tea" moments. I enjoyed it. I'd even watch it again! Give it a shot. At worst it's a good watch, but a 5 it is not.... UNLESS you are hating or this isn't apart of your culture.
Not a bad movie, just mislabeled. It's not a comedy. It's a full on look at the scandals and people behind them at mega churches. The saving grace is the acting. Both leads show their acting chops in a major way, but the script and the movie is just a bit boring. I gave it a 6 for the message and the acting but not a movie I would run and tell people about. Again, the two main actors are great, just this script doesn't match their talent, their talent instead carried the script.
And why are we required to write a 600 character review now? Well no need to read below just making this a novel in order to submit...

I'm not sure, but it seems like this movie was somewhat based on Eddie Long. Eddie Long was a pastor from Atlanta who had a few scandals.
I found a couple parts to be funny, but overall it wasn't good. I was surprised to see Sterling a part of a movie like this. It's nice to see him explore different roles. I gave four starts because I like Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown.
Many people don't want to accept that many of the things that were portrayed in this movie occurs and have occurred in churches.
If you don't like people mocking religions or churches then this movie is NOT for you. If you don't care about religion or church, check it out you may like it.
