When Molly Brown told fellow filmmaker Thomas Lee Rutter (Bella in the Wych Elm, Day of the Stranger, The Pocket Film of Superstitions, etc.) that she was making a parody of the Japanese horror film, Ringu, he suggested that she make five different parodies of Ringu as a tribute/reference to The Five Obstructions, in which Lars von Trier challenged the experimental filmmaker Jorgen Leth to remake his short film, The Perfect Human, in five different ways. Molly Brown accepted the challenge and parodied Ringu in five different ways.
