Really, really enjoyed this - excellent low-fi production that makes an asset out of its budgetary constraints. This is a taut thriller that grips throughout, maintaining the tension and then sticking the landing via a series of third act twists. Solid cast - particularly Mirren Mack (from the excellent Sex Education) as Carla, who is very convincing in a complex part - and good pacing kept me intrigued, invested and guessing throughout. Really enjoyed the score and clever use of handheld and security camera footage to build atmosphere - the intensity was maintained throughout. Highly recommended.
Yup it's slow. Was struggling not to fall asleep during the movie.
I loved Mirren Mack in Sex Education and she does a fine job in this too. But there are flaws in that she doesn't know what the Internet is, yet managed to perfect using a mobile phone in no time at all.
The movie is almost100% filmed on a home camera, which is a pain.
Its difficult to find anything good about the film, other than Mirren Mack, plays her part well.
I wouldn't say don't watch this slow moving drama but I wouldn't go out my way to see it.
Just remember it's slow from start to finish but if that's your thing, give it a go.

First of all the acting was surprisingly very good. I'm looking forward to seeing what Mirren Mack (the actress who player Carla) has in store in future films. The Dad (his name escapes me!) was very good also. It was also fun to see Michelle Collins starring.
I've read through some of the reviews here to see why the rating is what it is, and I get what many people are saying, but personally I really enjoyed it. I liked how it was recorded, it was something different for me. Was it a great film? No, not in my opinion. Was it a good film? Absolutely! If you're into thrillers, you'll likely enjoy it also.

This film had me guessing the whole way through! I loved Carla's character and right from the outset I was instantly hooked on her plight, routing for her at every twist and turn. We were running through the hallways right with her, not knowing who to trust. The acting was superb and I thought the script was brilliantly written. I thought the surveillance cameras were a great touch and worked well to increase the overall tension. The ending was really moving, especially as Carla took control which had me cheering in my seat. Don did a great job at flipping from caring father to unhinged and unpredictable. Really enjoyed it! Definitely would recommend!
First off, this film is not a horror in any conceivable facet.
It's a very slow burning thriller, with practically no payoff in the end.
The plot centers around a girl named Carla, who has been imprisoned in her home, by her father, who claims gangsters are out to kill them, after he testified against them in a murder trial.
Really, though, Carla is just getting gaslit.
There are only two other characters in the film: a detective who is trying to free her; and some random woman whose role is never clear, or explained - but claims to be her mother.
The whole thing is shot from the perspective of diegetic cameras.
Mostly, with a camcorder that Carla uses to film everything.
Despite the fact that she has no computer. Or other such medium, to back up the files.
Which makes zero sense, considering the entire film is supposed to be one she made to reveal what she went through to her actual mother.
Throughout the majority of the film, you are left completely in the dark as to what is actually going n.
Which leads you to expect there to be some sort of major climax at the end, that will bring everything into context.
But there is quite literally no payoff.
As they make no attempt to throw a twist in, that might have made it even remotely interesting.
So you sit through, what can only be described as, a slow burning borefest...only for it to end with you completely disappointed.
I'm actually in awe at how little effort they put into the story.
Which is about as perplexing as the story itself.
I'm still trying to figure out who the blonde woman was.
But have no idea.
I assume she was an escort or something.
But who knows.
Any way you look at it...this film is a complete waste of time.
As it only manages to keep you engaged with the expectation of a payoff that never comes.
So steer clear of this absolute stinker of a thriller.
1.5 out of 10.
